What's goin on K20a? Here's the story of my life....This is my first car which was given to me by my parents junior year of high school, 2006? I've been into cars for as far back as my memory goes, from hot wheels, to RC, car video games, go karts, you get the point. This build was NOT planned and everything has just gradually became more intense as time has past and my knowledge has expanded. With the help of my father and friends we've tackled everything in this build on our own, in my front yard with the exception on paint. This is my first build and a great learning experience so here's a timeline of how it all began and where I'm up to now, real time.
Heres when I found it on autotrader back in summer 2006, 1997 Nordic Mist Metallic Type SH.
Drove it for about a year during without doing much besides DIY black housing headlights and jdm sidemarkers. Summer of 2007 I worked my ass off to buy my GC/Koni suspension and of course I totalled it the same week the suspension came in.
The car sat for a couple months since insurance wanted to give me shit for the car and i had no money to fix it. Working I pieced some parts together to fix it better than any shop could, with the help of my father since he welds for a living. Some DIY new front end .
Back on the streets with new front end + GC/KONI combo, winter of 2007. Being in high school i was too broke to paint the car so I saved and planned on using my tax returns the following year to get it fully painted, so i drove it with the black front end for a while.
Fresh paint + color change to (98-00) Crystal Blue Metallic, March 2008
By this time i had installed a type-s intake and greddy evo but The motor started acting up from ragging on it and i had to do something soon but which was around June 2009. At the same time i Got a good deal on a set of staggered Regamaster Evos from a member on s2ki, and picked up some rays extended lug nuts since it was my DD at the time. Around that time i also installed a set of jdm fogs. The car only looked like this for a couple since since the motor was soon to go!
UPDATE Well the H22 had been acting up for the past year with a misfire and had a loss of compression due to bad rings. After doin some research online i decided to attempt a K24 swap since i wasnt going to rebuild my h22 being that it was a type-sh block+ tranny which are not compatible with normal H22 so i wasnt able to just swap trannys and i didnt wanna spend money on an H22 swap that would eventually need a rebuild anyway. At this point there had only been one bb6 with a custom fitted k20 swap done by a shop called RPMNYC in NY but i decided to go ahead with it since Hasport was selling a kit for the 4th gen prelude.
Finally coming together after making the decision to go K swap. Got in contact with Hasport and sent them my harness and they got everything back to be within a couple weeks. At the same time i was hunting for a 2006+ tsx swap since i was picky and wasnt going to settle for an 04-05 unknown mileage. Found Brandon Peterson on K20a.org with a 2006 tsx full swap with only 7,xxx miles out of a tsx pace car.
- 2006 TSX K24A2/ 6 speed
- Hasport BBK axles, mounts, wiring harness
- Tanabe SMH
random pics off my phone. lots of other new things that ill post up when the car is done.
Mothers Day UPDATE
well i spent the day dropping in the motor to check clearance on the subframe. Also to finally weld in the driverside bracket (red bracket) that i got off a 4th gen prelude since the HASPORT kit i have is to drop in to a 4th gen not a 5th gen prelude. gonna pull it out this weekend to start working on the bay.
These are updates from a while back.. once again all the pics are crappy because there all off my phone.
This is how it sat with the motor finally in and car on the ground...
Got to work on the bay and shut most of the holes in the bay & also you guys can also see the cut in the subframe to clear my K20 SSR header which I since sold for a Kidd racing big tube header with better clearance.
Meanwhile i started collecting some spoon parts to add to the car when its finally done. got my hands on an authentic spoon signed kseries VC, a kseries spoon TB, Vision MC mirrors and a couple other things. still missing a few
I ordered a Bolt boys brake tuck kit and sourced a used but mint Spoon Gen2 to add to my collection thanks to ludeboi121. I plan on installing the brake tuck this sunday and finish shutting some holes on the bay to get to paint soon. I also ordered a carbon fiber sunroof plug from lighterfaster.com and picked up a Type-s flushmount spoiler, ill post pics once they come in.
Also got my hands on a pair of discontinued Memory fab S68 buckets!
SO i decided on a full color change since i have too many parts that need to be painted and I am not satisfied with the quality of the paint on the car. Let me know what you guys think of the new color I chose. Heres the pic that won me over.
Sunroof removed and brackets welded for the carbon sunroof plug. The lighter/Faster kit brought mostly rivets but i decided to make brackets and have them all welded on. Ill post some pics of the fitment after paint.
Welded just about every hole that was unnecessary.
It's been at the paint shop for about a month and a half and finally this week hes gotten down to business. Here's the current status as of today, hope to be painted by the end on the week.
