That is a very useful link for people doing this, however it looks very involved hooking up the all of the MR2 system components. I think just a relay and switch inside the car would do fine turning it on or off as needed.

I've been running just the pump for a couple of months now but I find that it is too assisted, you get no feel at speed. So I'm trying to adjust the speed of the motor which is not easy with something that pulls 80A so I think using the MR2 ECU and driver might be the only way!

I've been using this setup for a few weeks now. It really is easy to install - once you get the right hi pressure line made up. Best relay to use is the one that comes with the pump.

Mine feels a bit over assisted at the moment but unsure how to adjust it - I've played with the screw at the bottom but doesnt seem to make much difference.

Anyone have any ideas?
Minor Voltage drop Via, resistor maybe?

On the MR2, at speed the voltage to the pump is dropped to 2 - 4V and when parking etc.. 10-14V so you need a wacking great resistor to drop that much voltage.

I'm looking at some PWM DC motor controllers - at least it is variable. Failing that I might have to install the full MR2 setup with ECU and drivers!

What are all the components for this and how did you wire it?

The 4QD comes as a standalone unit - battery + and - in and motor + and - out. Plus a three wire cable for the potentionmeter.

Could you explain this a little more? I am getting ready to put together a setup for my car and want to make sure I do it right the first time...

exactly which version are you using? and did you get a complete boxed unit or just a card? and what exactly is a potentionmeter? Is that something else I have to buy?

As you can probly tell I am a little electronicly ignorant, but I have a guy that is going to put it all togther for me, he said just get him everything he needs, and a diagram and he'll take care of it.

I already have the pump I just need all the wiring and sensor/relay/resistor info...

Thanks

Yeh buy the whole kit which includes box, wiring and potentionmeter (a rotary control)

This allows you to adjust the steering feel from min to max.

so then it is set at a perminat preasure setting and is not adjusted while driving correct?

Yes although you could easily control it with a speed output from the ECU but TBH all you would need is a setting for max pressure when you are under 10MPH and less when you are over 10MPH. I'm doing this with my Apexi RSM which has speed outputs. The Pot controls the pressure when over 10MPH.

Thought I'd revive this thread as Karcepts made a bracket to hold the MR2 electric PS pump.

Since I am using the tsx pump why does the car feel so nibble. Is it because the pump is huge? Its feels like its over powered steering wheel..

Let's keep this thread going. I know a lot of people are wondering how to fix their power steering whoa's. Right now power steering pumps don't mount in supercharged ek's or dc's. They just don't seem to fit. Also, those who want a setup like this for racing will benefit. So.......Can anyone confirm that karcepts has made a mounting bracket? And where can we get one of these dc motor controllers in the US?

there is a karcepts bracket. check this thread:
