Hello everyone.
I had a CV joint fail while on track a couple weekends ago. 365 whp, 306 wtq on 9 psi. Limited to 6 psi on track. Using a set of Insane Shafts for the EP3 rated for 500 HP (32mm axles). Front left outer CV had an unplanned disassembly. Sounded terrible but I'm glad it wasn't the engine (again) or transmission (also again). All the tracks I have been to go clockwise so the front left takes most of the abuse.
About 5 years old with maybe a dozen track days. Less than 30k miles. I'm not too upset that one broke, but a little disappointed. It does get track time but not "that" much. Boots weren't ripped or leaking. There were no warning signs that I noticed.
A replacement set is about $500, just the left left is $250. I have no idea how much better these axles are than stock, if at all. A stock replacement is $50-75. Only other options I can find are below:
-Insane Shafts 1000 HP rated axles ($1000)
-DSS level 0 axles ($640 but no warranty or HP rating listed as they're basically stock replacements)
-DSS level 5.9 axles rated for 850 HP ($2420)
I really cannot find any other upgraded axles besides these two brands. Was debating upgrading to 5 lug and 36 mm axles over the winter. Maybe stock axles would be an option at that point? Can't really justify the price of DSS.
