I just picked up a 6 speed trans the guy told me it came off his k20a2 motor… but obviously the trans is from a 06-11 so now I’m confused.. will this transmission work with this motor? Or the ep3?
Ok I was hoping it would be a simple here and there but doesn’t this tranny have the css not the vss and how do I go about the lockout? And do I have to swap harnesses?Yes, it will. I don’t see a reason why not. Some k24 manual trannies have a different main gearbox mount. The rest fits.
I got the prb ecu kpro, sorry this is new to me especially this k series stuffI cannot see the diff in the picture as it is cropped off, hence I can’t tell you if it has a vSS or not.
The shifter mechanism on top shows the reverse lockout. Your ECU needs to support that.
So what would be the best way to get my css to vss? On my k20z3 transyeah, if you look through the "hole" in the diff and you see it being hollow or having a disk fitted, you got a LSD. If you see a cylindrical axle passing though the bore, it is an open diff.

Remove the plug for the VSS and check if there is a plastic gear fitted on the differential next to the bearing. See the angled teeth gear below the top bearing.
If not, you need the signal converter or refit this ring gear to the differential. But that is a lot of work and the gear is not cheap either.

Would I have to open the case up to see if the gear is in place?both ways work as I described. If the gear is fitted already, you can simply buy a VSS sensor, fit it with one bolt and plug it in.
Never mind I remove the vss and check to see if the gear is in place 10-4 I’ll do that when I get homeboth ways work as I described. If the gear is fitted already, you can simply buy a VSS sensor, fit it with one bolt and plug it in.
you mean you remove the plug where the VSS would be fitted and check![]()
if the gear is present, you will need to machine an M6 bolt hole to hold the VSS sensor down. It seems this is missing.
The VSS sensor hole is also not threaded. The sensor is sealed with an o-ring. But that is all doable.
I’m not sure what I’m looking for in the vss plug in about to just see what it looks like in my ep3 transif the gear is present, you will need to machine an M6 bolt hole to hold the VSS sensor down. It seems this is missing.

Also would a vss gear for a 5 speed ep3 work for the k20z3?if the gear is present, you will need to machine an M6 bolt hole to hold the VSS sensor down. It seems this is missing.

Ok so def no gear in there what are my options I really don’t wanna crack this case openif the gear is present, you will need to machine an M6 bolt hole to hold the VSS sensor down. It seems this is missing.

Thanks man I really appreciate thisfyi, you wont be able to fit the VSS into that threaded CSS hole (if thats whats being assumed), its a smaller diameter hole and won't accept the vss body at all.
how destroyed is your EP3 trans?
you will want to swap your EP3 shift mechanism over to the z3 trans if you want to retain your ep3 shifter cables and shifter setup.
This takes a little bit of work tho:
- you have to tap and thread 2 new holes so all 4 shift mech holes can bolt down (2 holes will line up tho)
- you'll have to swap the z3's internal 6spd shift mechanism gear-bracket over to the 5spd ep3's shift mechanism. If you don't do this, you won't be able to shift into 6th gear. Video tutorial here.
- you'll lack reverse lock out using the ep3 shift mechanism but its not a big deal. just don't shift over into reverse while at speed lol.
- you'll need to buy one of these shifter cable brackets
- a ktuned or dakota css converter as Lotus mentioned and be able to make changes in your kpro (if you have one)
So I did all this my motor trans is hooked up.. but my cables are not right… is there something different I need to do to my cables?fyi, you wont be able to fit the VSS into that threaded CSS hole (if thats whats being assumed), its a smaller diameter hole and won't accept the vss body at all.

I swapped everything over I didn’t know my brackets were adjustable so now it’s better then it wasWell if you're using the PNN3 trans and you didnt swap your ep3 shift mechanism over, this is why your cables arent working. EP3 cables aren't compatible with the way the PNN3 shift mechanism actuates. So I did all this my motor trans is hooked up.. but my cables are not right… is there something different I need to do to my cables?
