about 11 grand to do a k20a swap with the correct parts.

 

my boyfriend has a '98 civic and he wanted to start a new project. the k20a swap. he bought from some dude in new york for $1450 and he brought it to one of his buddies. mind you, he brought it in august '05. it's not almost june '06. i really don't think it takes this long for engine swaps, but this guy is totally taking his sweet ass time. how long are they supposed to take to do? (i don't know much about cars.) what are the necessary parts and customization that he needs to complete this project? cause so far, he's spent $6300 on some stupid guy thats fucking him over...

he bought a k20a swap for 1450 mann find out if its legit , what kind of k20a , an a3 motor out of a civic si or base rsx ... now k swaps if it is a k20a then thats $$$

 

A k20 swap should cost roughly $3-4k *on top* of the cost of the motor. This is assuming that your b/f got a complete swap (meaning, engine, transmission, ecu, axles, etc.). As for the time required, I would think that a shop could do the swap in a few days if they have the parts on hand already. As for an average guy in their garage, I would think that 2-4weeks is more than enough time as long as they don't have to spend a lot of time waiting for parts.

Either way, a year is way too long. All of the modifications that are required on the actually body of the car can be done in a single weekend (and that is if you are taking your time). Actually physically swapping the motors is pretty straight forward. Wiring up the new motor and working out the bugs is where most of the time would probably be spent.

 

this is a picture of his k20. it came with everything when he bought it. he bought it for so cheap because the guy didn't like hondas. he was a volkswagon guy. but he got the engine out of a civic si.

 

The engine out of the Civic Si (or Sir) in canada is the hatch >2002. This engine is a 160hp K20A3, with a 5 speed tranny.

 

k20a3 hahahaha... i think your bf got really ripped off.. hahaha.. if hes doing a k20a2 its gonna cost 4k... lol... anywayz peace!

 

It took me 3 months to get the car in driving condition. That is taking a running stock civic and getting a running K Civic. I worked on my spare time only a few hours at a time usually on weekends. This was my first swap and I did all the work myself along with a few friends once in a while. It is a challange, and you need a good techinal backround.

I read some where that with type s cams and rockers it will produce close to 200 hp granted u up the cp, intake, headers and exhaust, with kpro. Its not the motor of choice for many but i guess work with what u got and can afford. I would go with a k24/k20 frankenstein personally. Good luck.

However... that means just flat out more money he has to dish out for picking up a motor that he didn't do research on before jumping on the buy thinking it was a good deal. Its an honest mistake for a lot of people could make. I jumped on my k24a2 motor after hearing about it. its taken me about a year to piece it all together. Some people laugh and think damn thats way too long but u know what? Ask yourselves what is going into ur motor. Excuse the language but I don't have bullshit parts going into mine. Alongside that I'm taking my time looking for deals on parts that actually produce power. Come on everyone has a budget & limited funds. We're not all ballers.

With that said, I agree with Kommon... It would be less of a hassle in doing the swap if he picked up a k20a2. Best of luck with ur bf's motor swap. Damn why can't gf's be more helpful like this one... Shoot i'm suprised she hasn't given him money to get the damn motor in already lol... Props to ya girl.

I mean if it's taken this long I think you should cut your losses with the guy, and have someone else in your are to help with the swap. I know there's gotta be some k20a members that live around you. Swaps can cost from 5-10+ depending on what you wanna do. And it should take less than a month if you have the proper parts. If you need any info I'm willing to help. Since I'm in the process of doing my own swap. Goodluck.

my bf didn't pick the parts he want because he didn't know what he needed. but so far, the people doing the swap bought custom shit. headers, mounts, whatever. just the basics that they need. sending out the ecu and the wiring harness. whatever is necessary to start the car and get it running. then there is the power steering and what not...that supposedly costs a couple hundred dollars which i honestly do not believe. the reason we're not spending as much money as we are is because this guy gets big discounts on parts and they are good friends from school back in the day but the dude is fucking him over...i say...
