K20 Rotrex/sequential/dry sump'd Pug 106

Hello guys, I've started my k20 pug 106 project now. In the next few months things should start to shape up nicely.

The main goal of my car is to make it as fast as possible for the money I have. There are no restrictions like there would be in some race series cars.

The general goal is to get the weight down to around 800kgs (roughly 1750lbs) and for the engine to produce around 450hp.
This project is by no means all about power, there will be a proper roll cage installed, digital dash, widetrack suspension, remote reservoir dampers and some nice brakes.

Here are a few taster pictures for now while I get some proper progress together..

Here's how it started

Designed and machined my own mounts (k-swap mounts would hit my chassis)

Add this into the mix and things get interesting ;)

Lots more things happening including tilton pedal box and chassis work.

I'll keep it updated, this will be pretty nasty ;)

Basically the vibration causes premature failure and also causes some rough running now and again.

K-tuned Hall effect sensor has been ordered anyway.

Managed to get one window in before I went to work.

My friends at Satchell engineering have helped me design some fancy reservoir brackets.. These will be 3D printed.

Also bought a chase bays overflow tank

We'll the car is Running! And it's fully road legal now.
Yesterday I got the car tuned by Romain Levesque and he did a great job.
I ran into a few small problems but nothing major..

It seems that plumbing my external wastegate in the way it's suggested in the Jaydee thread doesn't work too well for me. It seems to fluctuate boost as it's opening and closing.. So my new plan is to turn the wastegate around and plumb it in the 'conventional' way, might lose a couple of psi in my lowest setting but at least it will work. Maybe if I had closed loop boost control it would work.

Also had a fuel issue, it seems my aeromotive a1000 isn't flowing what it should and fuel pressure doesn't rise anymore after a certain pressure (not sure what pressure)
This issue sort of limiter what we could make in terms of power.

Positives are that at full tilt it's making 1.35bar which means my intercooler setup is working well and the potential to make power is there.

In the end it made 280lb ft and 380bhp but with quite a lot of wheelspin on the rollers.

As can be expected it feels ballistic on the road! Very very quick car.

It weren't at Eurospec but it was mapped at syvecs..
I had it mapped again this week and sorted my fuel issue and got boost by gear to work effectively :)

Same issue on the dyno again with wheelspin.. The car isn't very easy to strap down and with being so light it's not the easiest to get a reading.

It's almost certainly around 450hp without the timing optimised so it's plenty for now. It will be getting a sequential box and syvecs ecu next time round and it will be tuned on a Hub dyno to get a true reading.

Got some issues to sort out for the time being.
I'm waiting on some parts from k-Tuned to hopefully sort an issue I have and need to get some decent drive shafts made up.

When it was mapped this week it was done by Romain Levesque and he did a great job and really is a nice guy.. A pleasure to work with.
I was fortunate enough to have it mapped at the infamous Roger Clark Motorsport! This place is phenomenal and the workshop is cleaner than my kitchen not to mention the championship winning UK time attack cars so it was a very cool day.. Here's a couple of pics

Here in North America we have DriveShaftShop (.com). I am not associated with them in any way. So just an FYI to the readers....

They made me custom shafts. Length to match my Lotus. Honda inner with Corvette outers for Corvette bearing hubs. Same price as 2.9. They have been working well with 700 and 600hp tunes on my Honda powered Lotus. I even had the CV gators break, due to clearance issues (my problem, now fixed). No problems. Cost me less than USD$1k...

I'm running 2.9 rated custom DDS shafts at the moment too, in a similar setup to yours Anton :) Got a leaking inner cv boot but hopefully it'll be a minor fix.

Dan; great to hear you're well acquainted with Clockwise. I was referred to them by Mike from R-Motion myself many years ago regarding tuning. The chap was very helpful and gave me very honest advice and sent me elsewhere for my requirements- not something most garages would do!

I hope you get the gearbox back up and running. I was rather hoping to get your opinion on the gripper diff for a mid-engined rwd k20. I've experienced it in a fwd civic with k24 we built some years ago but (blue 1990 civic hatch I was in when I met you at a meet- if you recall?), as I understand it, rwd is a totally different ball game wen it comes down to choosing the right diff. The car is a weekend warrior and will see the 1/4 mile and street mainly. Will a simple open diff be sufficient for my needs as I'm more keen to put the power down in acceleration/launch and not too fussed about fast cornering or circuit racing (at least for the moment).
Cheers

I believe Romain is freelance. But you'd have to hear that from him to be certain.

He is a great guy and knows his stuff.. I'd recommend anyone to use him. He went out of his way to help me get my car right even though he didn't have to..
I'll use him whenever I need any mapping (which will probably be end of the year when I fit a Syvecs Ecu)

not really mate, ive been working away since the start of January. so ill be home very soon and can test the car out now the suspension has been properly setup.

ill be starting to spec the engine soon as well as saving a little so i can buy the ecu and gearbox at the end of the year
