K20 Rotrex/sequential/dry sump'd Pug 106

Hello guys, I've started my k20 pug 106 project now. In the next few months things should start to shape up nicely.

The main goal of my car is to make it as fast as possible for the money I have. There are no restrictions like there would be in some race series cars.

The general goal is to get the weight down to around 800kgs (roughly 1750lbs) and for the engine to produce around 450hp.
This project is by no means all about power, there will be a proper roll cage installed, digital dash, widetrack suspension, remote reservoir dampers and some nice brakes.

Here are a few taster pictures for now while I get some proper progress together..

Here's how it started

Designed and machined my own mounts (k-swap mounts would hit my chassis)

Add this into the mix and things get interesting ;)

Lots more things happening including tilton pedal box and chassis work.

I'll keep it updated, this will be pretty nasty ;)

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

This is some great work here!!

There is here in Portugal a a K seris Peugeot 306 and its pretty sick. Not that litle chassis with the Rotrex sep-up.... wow!!

keep us posted.
Cheers, do you have a link or pictures of the 306? Sounds intereting :)

I'll keep you updated don't worry :D

Post the before video of this thing running! Love seeing projects like this

Cheers, I don't have many vids of it before as it weren't together than long before I decided to do this conversion.

The best video is probably...

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Cheers:)

My gearbox has been sent to clockwise motion to get the gripper differential fitted, a 5.1 final drive and a good old checkover. As well as the casing being blasted.

I should hopefully have a parcel arriving to motor that contains a xcessive inlet manifold. It's the 'pro' intake with 58mm runners and side feed with optional velocity stack.

I have also bought a new shell to start work on but that went pear shaped as when I started to strip it down I uncovered rust and a bent chassis leg where it had been crashed :/
Hopefully have another shell on the way in a couple of weeks.

Ordered a load of these

Also last month I ordered a suspension kit, not just any kit though, it's been designed by a guy who builds hillclimb and sprint cars and does a very good job at it.
Rosejointed arms, Rose jointed steering arms with anti bump steer, adjustable camber/castor/track/toe and it's 50mm wider track overall.

This was the shell I was going to use but now I have to get another one :(

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Well today the xcessive inlet came in the post after a nightmare trying to sort the customs out.

Top service by Rich but unfortunately he sent me the wrong one.. He sent me with a centrefeed rather than a side feed which I need due to space constraints.

Also, while offering the inlet up to the head I noticed that it doesn't actually fit, the only way id be able to make it fit is take a huge chunk from the water housing where the pulleys bolt to.. Is this normal? Anyone else had problems? It's k20a2 btw.

hey dan,
If you cut the water housing to make the inlet fit would you still be able to use an idler pully?

Greetings

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Well tried my engine in although I have no gearbox as its away being re-built with gripper diff and 5.1 final drive.

I ordered a side feed/end feed xcessive intake manifold and when it came it arrived as a centrefeed plenum, according to Rich from xcessive it's my fault because I weren't clear what I wanted :/ even though I ordered an end feed/side feed inlet.. Figure that out :(

Well tried it in the car and there's no way it will fit due to lack of space so end feed IS NEEDED so I'll have to wait another 2 months for that which I'm certainly not happy about.

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

You'll love the rotrex. I was very impressed with an untuned k20 c30-94 setup. Even with no lsd the car would pull so well and power was instant. Now the car is running 399.1bhp with lsd and it's mental to say the least. traction is an issue at times, but it goes well once it grips.

We're just normal guys though. I'd assume your vast experience with race cars has taught you much more than just a thing or two on how to make a high power car handle well.

BTW, good choice of LSD- got a gripper in the ec8. It's savage!

I'm convinced Its the right choice for the application and budget.
I take it that's ctr sam? I'd love a ride out in something like that before mines done to give me a clue what to expect.

Yea the gripper is a great diff, I'm hoping it will pull my arms off.

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Had a bit more time today, again.. Grinding shit

Now the engine fits in and I just need to get a gearbox so I can make absolutely sure I cut the right bits out.
It's going to be a TIGHT fit but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that out

Heres a couple of pics

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Well don't you think you should hook me up with a passenger ride in one of these rotrex monsters? At least that will give me some enthusiasm to help me along with mine.

Also, a thing to note. This car won't be a straight line monster, it's an out and out track car. There is just as much time spent on the brakes and suspension and chassis than the engine :D

That i could tell when I saw the dash and interior. Reminded me of the track :D

Yeah sure, when I'm free and the car's running sweet, I'll call you over.

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

great looking build you have going on in here.

always good to see a Kseries in a different platform. looking forward to following until the end
Thanks mate, yea after a lot of looking around I decided that the K-series was probably one of the best 4cyl engines in the world and couple that with a pretty well sorted 6 speed box it's a perfect choice really.

Managed to get the car detailed today. Had some engine mounts anodised gold :)

Re: K20 Peugeot 106

Great work Dan. I think you should run it n/a first though. That's how you will really feel the difference later on. n/a will be great in that chassis!
Cheers, not going to run it NA and it be slower than it was
In it's last form, thats going backwards.. Before it made 300@wheels so it needs to be fast to be worth it.
