hey, im new to swaps, and im just not satisfies with what the k20a3 is stock. i have heard that its a money pit, and you cant see high hp numbers with it, so i want to take the next step, but im not sure what to do? a head swap? a full k20a2? or a k24? i want to see about 250 hp before i go forced induction. im going to have about $3500 to work with on the swap. what is going to be the best setup for my ep? any information woul be appreciated. thanks.

I would go with a k24a2, because of the size of the car man. If you don't go with that motor, then you can go with the k20a2 or k20a. The k24a2 has more tq and is able to have a nice topend like the k20s mentioned. With either of these motors you are very well capable of 250hp. Also with either of these motors the type s tranny would be good for.

It's kind of up to you. Need some more info as to what you really want. Also if you look at a k24, stay away from the k24a4 or k24a8. These motors are in the accord and crv with only 160hp. The one I mentioned is in the TSX with 201hp with 166tq. This k24a2 is more related to the k20s.

For $3500 you might as well not even start. I highly doubt you can get 250hp with that money.

You're going to need AT LEAST twice as much when its all said and done.

kpro is like 1000 alone, tranny with lsd is going to run you over 1000 for sure (for one in good shape). $1500 left and you still need to buy supporting mods (I/H/E)...

If you wana make 250 for $3500 just boost your ep3 stock motor.

Because n/a k24 with a 5 speed is no fun. Its very slow on the top end compared to the same setup with a 6 speed.

Plus you are just thinking of getting a motor for $2500, then having a G left. There are so many incidental things you are going to need / break.

-motor mounts
-kpro
-tuning
-boltons (i/h/e)

Bottom line if you want you COULD just get the k24a2, get kpro and throw it un untuned. But if you want to go as fast a possible for cheap, go turbo a3.

In my opinion, I wouldn't turbo a stock a3 simply because it's not a performance motor. Just go all out and do a motor swap. The experience of having real vtec is worth the money spent. Later down the road you can think of changing your set up to something like k20/24 frank swap. I would concentrate on your long term goals. $3500 is a good amount to start off with, but eventually you will wanna do more. So just work with what you got to start off your project and get you closer to your goals. Just my 2 cents.

yea the ep3 has a fat ass...k24 all the way...3500 is not enough...u had better had money for a good set of tires because k24's render first gear useless when trying to race from a dig LOL

Those of you hating on the k24a1, have you even had one of them apart? Have you even had a k24a2 apart? You DO know the internals are interchangeable... right? A k24a1 compared to a k24a2 will net you MAYBE 30whp less (stock for stock with identical bolt ons). Thats a BIG maybe. The cost of whp with the k24's is wtq. I was of the understanding we swapped in k24's to GAIN tq. Tq+hp=power! Why lose tq just to impress whp dyno number lovers??

You can run a k24a1 w/o KPro. All you need is 310cc injectors with your EP ecu. I have a good friend of mine locally that has the "ghetto" k24a1 swap... and he even has a CAI/RH and catback. What do his plugs looks like? Better than the plugs that came out of my very own k20a3 with similar bolt ons. Whats his gas mileage? Averages 300 miles a tank. Does it run? Hell yeah. Will it beat Vipers and Vettes? Hell no. But it will fo sho put a smile on your face... which is what "SI" is all about.

Swap in the k24a1. Spend some coin on a GOOD swap (DC5 length) raceheader. SSR or HyTech. Pick up the 05 RSX-S midpipe ($170 new-larger piping too) and use the stock axleback for now. Buy those 310's... youre out 2500$ total. Enjoy the extra power so you dont lose sight of your goal. Save up for the k20a2 head and KPro. Add your choice of engine mounts along the way (Avid's are looking really good right about now). Source a killer clutch (CM stg4's are niiiice) And when its all said and done, you will have 5-6k dropped on the swap. But you will have gotten to enjoy it along the way... instead of just watching parts collect dust in the corner of your garage.

When the pull of the Frank no longer impresses you... use the rest of your saved coin to go SC. You will have haters and lovers alike of the JRSC. Some will say turbo is the only way to boost. But man... dont knock it till you try it. By then, you will love having a stock 5 speed... 300whp will eat the $hit out of 1st,2nd,and 3rd. Why have a shorter set of gears??? Add an LSD and the TSX 6th gear. Call it a day. By then, youll need new paint... bugs at 140mph tend to hit like rocks... :silly:

i just put a 6 speed knob on my ep3 shifter arm, you can use the ep3 shifter with a 6 speed trans. its the shifter mech in the trans and cables you need to worry about because they are clocked differently. check our vender section they seem to have parts for everything you could emagine except maby a k24 to t5 trans plate (come on its a good idea). loads of great info in this site.thanks for bumping a 8 year old thread :new_slayer:
