Hey guys,
Something has been bugging me.
I've been reading hundreds of historic threads getting ready to drop a K24a3 (Australian K24a2) into my DC5 Integra (rsx).
What's been bugging me, is the oil pump decision.
And what's throwing the spanner in the works? - Civic Si stock engines.
(Ignoring the valve train)
So the consensus on this forum is that:
"If you want to Rev to 8000RPM, get a Type S oil pump"
This seems to be thrown around because:
"Stock reliability means stock redline" And that happens to be 7200RPM for an Accord (TSX 7100rpm).
Where as a stock Type-S\R is at 8200RPM (give or take a little).
Makes perfect sense, until you notice the K20Z3 engine.
Civic SI has a K24 style oil pump, correct?
It certainly has the balance shafts in the oil pump, so I'm pretty sure they're the same pump.
And their limiter? 8300RPMwith an 8000RPM redline.
If these pumps weren't 8000RPM safe, why would Honda set a stock limiter to ABOVE that RPM?
It's been a good 3 or so years since I've found a good thread discussing this, so I'd love to hear what the lead up to 2017 has taught us.
I planned an 8000RPM limiter, shifting just after 7500RPM on a K24 pump, so I'm just trying to learn what the difference is.
This is 300RPM lower than "stock" on a CivicSi, so, safe?
Stock cams, so valvetrain should be OK at those revvs in a K24a2/3, RIGHT?
Or do I need further education.
