We got one of these in the shop today and I was eager to rip apart whatever I could get to just to see what was diffrent. I initially thought that they carried over the original K24A1 to the new 07 CRV but I was suprised to find a K24Z1 in its place. Keep in mind these are crappy camera phone pics but all the same they work fine.
First things I noticed:
- Intake manifold is stamped RAA, not plastic. However there is a plastic chamber UNDER the metal one with the same sort of exhaust recirculation system as the K24A1's plastic manifold.
- Drive by wire
- Aluminum oil pan that is NOT connected to the transmission.
- From what I could tell with a mirror/flashlight(didn't want to pull the VC) it is still the 2 lobe intake 1 lobe exhaust design. There was no real VTEC crossover when I took it for a test drive. Could not find a head stamping.
- The valvecover breather seems to be a bit raised and smaller in size with no coolant lines routed around it.
- Same metal intake manifold design as the Accord.
- It appears to have either a relocated oil filter, or an actual oil COOLER. I couldn't get much light in there...4wd makes it very cramped.
- Either 2.36" Exhaust, or 2.5" - Pretty big from the header back.
Thought I'd just give a heads up that there is a newer version of the CRV K24, Hopefully another one comes in sometime soon so I can grab a bit better look at it. All in all it seems to be an improvement over the K24A1, I am however not certain of the compression OR if it would take a K20 VTEC head with the stock pistons. I guess that info will come in time.
If you have anything to add, or other knowledge of this engine...please post it here!
