The gist is 02-04 K20 trans (low frequency) use 12v to power the VSS sensor and from what I've been told 05-06 K20 trans (high frequency) use 5v to power the VSS. Most instructions say to merely repin the plug to use a 05-06 trans in a swap car with 02-04 engine/conversion harness/Kpro ECU. The question is why doesn't the 12v power fry the 5v sensor? I haven't heard of any sensor failures because of this. I had planned on tapping the 5v TPS power to be on the safe side unless proven otherwise. Both images below show or demonstrate 12v repinned to the 5v sensor without issue. This concerns me lol.

Engine: '04 K24a2 (TSX) into '01 Insight
Trans: '06 Accord (high frequency)
ECU: 02-04 Kpro V4
Engine harness: 02-04 RSX base
Conversion harness: CJ's 02-04 for Kpro
Speedo converter will be installed 3" from the sensor. VSS wire (high frequency) into input to convert into low frequency output to ECU and Del Sol cluster.

You are correct on the voltages, '02-'04 use 12V power and '05-'06 use 5V. The instructions you have are from Ktuned who I would consider reputable. If they say to do that then that's what I'd do. It must be able to survive on with the increased voltage.
