Hi guys,

Looking for advice re: adding sway bars to my Canadian SI ( U.S. EX) for track usage. Right now I think my car has only 22mm fronts and no rears.

What advice would you give for 60% track usage and 40% street.

I have an option to purchase front /rear SIR ( U.S. - SI) sways that are 26mm fronta nd 13mm rear but a freind says this is not sufficient for track usage.

What do yo uguys suggest?

Thanks in advance,

I assume this is a 96-00 civic?

the front 26mm bar will not work without the lower control arms and strut forks

The rear will be fine if you use adjustable endlink but you could go bigger it's up to your style of driving! bigger rear bar creates oversteer

I have a si rear sway and rsx-s endlinks which worked well but now changing to a ctr bar 22mm we'll see what I like more...

What do most of yo uguys do? Do you leave the fronts stock and put after market in the rear?

I may also opt just to get a progress rear and leave the fronts stock. Just wondering what yo guys think is a good set-up.

So lets hear it fellas!

I've got omnipower coil overs (non adjustable). They're prtty good but I;d like to find a nice comfortable set-up for track/street.

What do yo uguys think about progress rear sways for civics?

I ran 22mm front with a comptech 22mm rear and loved it. I'm currently running a 24mm front with the same 22mm rear.

The comptech rear is hard to find these days, so I would recommend the ASR rear sway setup with the brace.

Thanks guys, I'm in Toronto so it may not be in my best interest to buy it from ASR via your sponsor and then have it shiped over. It may cost too much to ship to Canada?

At any rate, I hear that you need special mounts of some sort for the EX model as it isn't set-up to accommodate the sways? I hear people state that I need the GSR brackets or something like that. Hoping you guys can shed some light on that if yuo're familiar with the EX model.

I know that I have the 22mm ( stock ) in the front but nothing in the back. I think I'd like to go 24mm in front and say 18mm at the back.

What would the approx. cost be for the hardware and sways? Does this sound reasonable?
I'm obviously new to all of this and really am just starting to build this car properly.

Thanks again for all your feedback.

I can definitely understand where you are coming from on the shipping prices. However I wouldn't even consider running a sway bar bigger than stock (13/14mm) on the rear of a 96-00 without an integrated brace like that offered on the comptech or the asr. There is no other sway bar on the market that I would spend a dime for.

If you plan to run your car hard, subframe tear-out is a real concern.

do you even know how changing the sway bar sizes are going to effect the handling of the car?

A bigger front bar will enduce more understeer or a "pushing effect" of the front end when going through corners...
Making it harder to turn

A bigger rear bar will enduce more oversteer or a "loose tail" type of effect with the rear end being more prone to slide around corners but easier to spin out...
Making it easier to turn

Just depends on what type of changes you are looking for out of the new sway bars...

I run no front sway bar and a big 32mm hollow sway bar with the ASR subframe brace. I love the rear end being lose and coming around in the corners. I also run stiffer springs in the front than I do in the rear so the big bar in back and none up front works good with my setup for my prefered driving style. No one can tell you exactly what you will like best because everybody likes there cars set up different. So if you can tell us how you would like your handling to change we may be able to give better advice on how to do so...

Thanks for the great advice guys.

Well currently as I've mentioned, I have no rear sway ( only tracked the car once since the k20z1 swap) and the stock 22mm in the front. I do notice that I seem to oversteer more than under ( probably bc I'm still a novice track driver) but I would want to have a set-up that I could use on the track but still get to the track with some degree of minimal comfort. The end goal is for to be ableto corner with more confidence and at higher speeds. I'm really not sure what kind of set-up to go with so I was hoping to get some advice. The tracks I go to are short to medium courses and are not super high speed or anything like that so lots of turns etc.

What do you guys reccomend for the usage I've described keeping in mind that I'm amateur ( so I don't wanna rip my car in 1/2) and that I'm more concerned about oversteer than under for my particular driving habits.

Thanks again, Oh also, if you guys can let me kow hwere I could source ASR or Comptech. I think Ommon mentioned they were available on this site?

Cheers,

Wow, you guys are good. OK, here we go. As you can tell, I'm new to this whole world. I've got onmipower coilovers ( nonadjustable) not sure what springs though. I think factory maybe? I have tenzo 15" rims with Falken Azenis tires. I think this is all. It's obviously a 4-lug suspension ( stock EX) but buddy who tracks a lot with his civic claims I need 18mm in the rear and something like 24 up front.

He said to go with Eibach kit. I think he's got an 18mm on his hacthback 1994 cx and he beats the snot out of it and it's surpringly held up.

What would you advise me to purchase based upon the limited info I can give you? Do I need special hardware to attach the sways etc? Where can I buy them.

Thanks Kommon
