I guess this is my quick intro...

A friend of mine told me about the possibility of swapping the new RSX-S motor into an older Civic, and this seemed like it would be a great idea. So I found this website last night, and I now think I've read almost every post ever made on this site. I currently own and regularly autoX a 95 BMW 318i which also functions as my daily driver and snowboard hauler. I have been corner working at my local road racing tracks to save credits for track days.

Anyways, I used to own a 97 Civic LX (from 99-04) until it was stolen last summer. I absolutely love my BMW and its handling, but now that I'm looking for a track rat I don't think I can justify spending the huge amounts of money on prepping a BMW every weekend for DEs and occasional autoXs. I've looked into the RX8, the Mazdaspeed Protege, and several Miatas, but I think I'm a Honda/BMW elitist because the only cars I like are Hondas and BMWs (mainly the pre-2006 models).

I finish college in December and should have a secure job shortly thereafter, so I've already begun the search for a Civic (EK hatch/coupe or EG coupe). I will be keeping my BMW as my daily driver until it dies, then I will buy another BMW as my daily driver.

I will hopefully be able to join the K20/24 community within the next couple years when I undertake building a fun-to-drive-on-the-track Civic. I have many questions about suspension set-ups, but I will keep searching/reading and get specific if I cannot find exactly what I need.

One question about which I keep getting mixed responses is: are the K-series motors lighter than the B-series motors?

If you want a dedicated track car, then definitely get a civic with a k20 swap. OMG it would DESTROY any of the cars you mentioned with the right suspension. There really is no feeling like it. You must experience it first hand to know what I'm talking about. DO IT!!

they are about the same.. it depends what you weigh them with.. as you know stock headers are heavy as hell... When shops ship complete swaps, they put the whole thing on a scale so that is how I know that they weigh almost the same... the K series longblock is lighter but the 6 speed tranny makes up for it so they are almost equal

should be the same wieght..plus or minus a couple pounds.
it's going to be a wild transition from a rwd to a fwd vehicle..
E36's are cool.
I'm not TOO concerned about the transition, as I autoXed my 97 Civic in STS and had it on the track twice before it was stolen. I will miss RWD, but this looks like a more practical set-up for me.

I'm not looking for a Honda Challenge car and I don't plan to ever go club racing. I'm going to try to complete a decent suspension on the car before I toss in a K20/24, but I'm ready to get started on this project now. I had originally planned to build a 92-95 BMW 325 or a 95-98 BMW 318ti as a track car, but as I kept adding up little parts and potential repair costs, I'm decided that it's time for me to come back to Honda.

This was my old car (please forgive the riceyness because it was 3+ years ago and I've grown) http://www.cardomain.com/ride/627213

Probably because your EK is a little heavier, it makes the ride feel a little better.

My exact same setup on my buddy's teg feels alot smoother on his car because of the weight difference.
