the k20, k20a post

well i wanted to start a thread with all the k20a info you'll need to know about the engine and swappability. So here is some info i've gathered:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
basically to do a swap your looking at Minimum:
$3500-$5500: k20a engine
$575-$650: Hasport engine mount
$350-$399: Axles
$350-$399.00: refabricated hasport header
$300: wiring harness
$575: hondata ecu

To keep your AC:
$81.28: EP3 belt
$92.25: EP3 Bracket w/pulley

You will need these parts to accomplish various tasks as well:
Golden eagle rail $125.00
Fuel Lines $225.00
Fuel Regulator $200.00
Shifter Box (aj racing) $125.00
AEM intake RSX $225.00
Shifter cables $355.24
Throttle cable $25.38
Shifter linkage Clips $11.10
3 Bracket 31175-pra-000 $39.96
7 Pulley 31190-pra-000 $22.61
5 Bearing 31185-pcx-003 $5.14
12 Bolt 10 by 25 90031-pra-000 $1.48
Thermo unit $21.85
97 cable $22.53
Switch Coolant $25.99
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Will at Hybrid racing filled my in on some of the various parts needed:
The bracket, pulley, bearing, and bolt are needed to remove the Power steering from your K series motor. Here is a picture to show you how the parts work.

http://www.hybrid-racing.com/~stank....php?pic_id=274

This pulley setup is not needed on any motor that came from the EP3 Civic.

The Thermo Unit and Coolant Switch are used to control the fan and the temp gauge in your chosen chassis.

The remaining part is the throttle cable and this is used for throttle body actuation.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

William Davidson

"As promised here is the price for the kit. For most of you it is expensive but that is life. Good parts and good quality is what we are pushing. This motor, in street form makes more power than the Real Time RSX, for the world challenge series. And I bet their motors go for a whole lot more than what mine does. We will be manufacturing the first 10 kits ASAP. The only things left to be done is to finalize the new cam profile and the new intake manifold. Which will push the power to 280 whp. Realistically about 6 to 8 weeks before we have the kits ready to go. For those who are serious you can call me at (949) 581-2181 and we can answer your questions and take deposits.

The K20A is the DC5 ITR motor. Very expensive.

The K20A2 is the USDM Type S 200 HP motor. Expensive.

The K20Z1 is the USDM 2005 Type S 210 HP motor. <-This is awesome, but rare in the motor factor yards and veyr expensive.

Two things to think about that you mightn't think about at first thought:

(1) K20A3 is the 160 HP 2.0 litre EP3 Si motor in the USDM. This is a very torquey motor that's very pleasant to drive, very flexible. They are very cheap because of all the EP3 USDM people doing conversions and then not having anything to do w/their motors.

(2) K24A* is the 200 HP motor in the USDM CL7 (TSX). This is exactly the same size dimensionally as the K20's, but it's much cheaper, has a hell of a lot of torque, and is very easy to find because nobody's really thinking about putting these into smaller cars. Motor weighs the same, it's the same size...no reason not to do it. The head's a full VTEC design, and the internals are stressed well for the power.

If I were shopping for a K motor right now, there's no doubt I'd be going for one of those two less popular motors!

(If you're looking for a K24, make sure it's out of a TSX. The K24 motors in the USDM Accord and USDM CRV are not what you want in your high performance car.)

If you insist on wanting a K20 motor then I would definitely let Leo at PasswordJDM know you want it for sure, and then let him find it for you

USDM = k20a2...no LSD ( RSX Type S )
USDM = k20a3...no LSD ( RSX Base Model)
JDM = k20a.....LSD ( Integra Type R 02-05)

Hope that helps

So basically if you can post direct information or pm me or an admin to change the info above that would be great. If we can minimilize the questions about the engines and swaps on this thread and keep this thread as clear cut as possible i think it would be helpful.

Re: the k20, k20a post

for most K-series swaps you can use factory Honda axles.. They last longer, cost less and best of all handle slicks all day long..

As far as the header goes, either get the DC TSX header or buy something more expensive like the DTR-FAB header, its worth every cent. Hasport has quality issues but once again its a personal opinion.

Re: the k20, k20a post

well i've heard the hasport axles work fine for street driving. Above is posted some links for fabricated axles based on your setup for strength and the axle post, which people should read if they're building a track car.

Also i read that it is complicated to put the tsx head on the k20a the post is linked above. thanks,
-Jesse

Re: the k20, k20a post

I beleive in the general discussions there is an axle post on combinations of axles you can use with the K-series conversions..
I think for good headers you might be paying 400-600 for really good headers 600-1100 and for insane headers people have dreams about like the Inconel header that Burns stainless made I think it was $3500, but I'm sure you could get it shipped for free if you bought it..

<---Planning to drop TSX motor into EG; what axles to use to handle around or up to 300whp? I'm going NA so I shouldn't be needing 1000hp axles. Which is best header?(best fit, gains, etc.) and who makes CAI that will fit the TSX swap into the EG?

No idea, doesn't really fit this thread.

where on the AJ-racing.com site...
I actually coppired that from hybrid-racing so you should probably ask will for a link, or call aj-racing.

Great post!
Thanks, though i still know about absolutely nothing so if you could edit my origional post or tell me what to edit or start a duplicate thread with all the info people like me need to know about the swap i think it might help more people do the swap.

Re: the k20, k20a post

I think this should be a sticky, this is a good general sum up of everything you need to know about doing a swap instead of searching for this then searching for that and so forth. Some info on cams and info on some of the parts would be great like what is...

3 Bracket 31175-pra-000 $39.96
7 Pulley 31190-pra-000 $22.61
5 Bearing 31185-pcx-003 $5.14
12 Bolt 10 by 25 90031-pra-000 $1.48
Thermo unit $21.85
97 cable $22.53
Switch Coolant $25.99

97 cable? 12 bolts go where? bearings for what? pulleys don't come with the motor already? Brackets for what the radiator or something else? thermo unit and switch coolant? doesn't those two come with the motor already? Other then that great post!!!

Re: the k20, k20a post

An incredibly informative post! I've been looking at a swap for over a year, and this is the most info I've yet found. Got a question--somebody at Hasport told me that with some custom work on the hoses you could do this swap and keep not only the AC but the power steering as well. Another person told me that there just isn't enough room. Do you have any info on this? Thanks in advance.

hey droopy, i updated my first post with the info on those parts.

I've heard that you can keep both if done right, heres a quote from hasport's site:
Can you keep AC and PS?
You will be able to keep AC with custom lines and condenser mounting. The PS will also work with custom lines and a custom hood.

LOL.. Dont be suprised... I know pro fwd racers NA breaking the stage 5 axles..... NA is harder than turbo cars on axles... less wheel spin etc.

Hey if you guys got any questions on the swap that members here can't or won't answer just call will at hybrid racing (number and website link in the first post). Also post the answers back in this thread in case others want to know that info also. Thanks,
