Thanks to all the input form you k20a folks, I changed my swap plans. I intially was doing a k20a2 head swap onto my sc k20a3 motor (02 si), but after reading about how much the k20a3 block sucks, I opted to buy a k20a2 block from nicerex here on the forum (Thanks again man!). Tonite we got the head ready to be put on the k20a2 block, we replaced all the keepers and seals on the head with one exception, there was one valve which BENT the VALVE COMPRESSOR. The keeper was stuck to the retainer and after breaking the rented valve spring compressor (thanks kragen) we gave up thinking that this thing will not break.

To get the seals on, we pushed it in place with our fingers and then hit it with the bottom of a small rubber mallot. They all went on fine (remember the exhaust and intake seals are different!)

Tomorrow, we take the engine out of my civic, and start whoring it for parts. The swap WAS to take place at my friend's shop in chico california, but he hasn;t returned my calls for 2 weeks and I gave up on him as a mechanic and a friend. I was about to do it all myself at a rented shop, but then found two AWESOME guys on craigslist.org who have been doing swaps at their house for the last coupel months. They recently did a k20a into a dc-5, and they seemed like nice guys. $400 to swap motors, and build my k20a2 (slap the head on) with my help, and they keep my k20a3 block. I'll snap pictures tomorrow and if I am lucky, I'll find that fucking missing injector on the floor of my garage tonite. I'll post tomorrow, everyone cross their fingers, my sc k20a2 ep3 should be done tomorrow evening, and I;ll be paying even more for gas than before

Thanks buddy, you were the main instigator in not reusing the k20a3 bottom end, although I thank you, the fiancee doesn't (that was overpriced shoe money I used to buy the block) :p

Ok, first problem: The k20a2 water assembley does NOT allow for the ep3 supercharger manifold :( We could have ground down the water pump assembley, but to be honest, we were rushing ahead and didn;t have anything to grind down the k20a2 water pump assembley with.... so I reused the k20a3 water pump assembley which means no oem oil cooler :(

Asside from that the motor was a tremendous PITA to remove from the car. And onvce I finished assembleying the k20a2, putting the tranny back on the block was another huge PITA.

Man, we worked form 10 am to 2 am, 2 guys, joined by a third around 2 pm.... finished reassembleying the motor last night, and now its sitting on the floor outside the car. About to head down and drop the new one in

Many pics will come...its a promise!

3) Day 2
4) The k20a3... goofy pistons
5) The a3 and a3 have identical water pump housing region, except the a2 uses a bolt intead of this particular steel stud
6) This is where the vtec solenoid attaches to the head... the picture is upside down, notice the crafty jbweld on the oil pressure sensor knub below the solenoid face (on top of the pic)

Yo what up man. I am a newcomer to this site, I bought my ephatch about 8 months ago, anyways, I was just wondering, did you swap in the k20a or a2? And did you also use the supercharger from the a3? If so that is very sick my man.
Good work.

The A3's block and the A2's block are like night and day, and sorry the wife is going to be short on spendiing money :silly:
I have seen the A2 block hold up to some serious driving and still holding strong. Not talking about dyno driving either.
With that set up with a good tuner you should hit close to 300whp and 200lbs on 9psi, just something to look forward to
