This question came to me while doing a 06 rsx-s cluster swap in my del sol



The k20z1 (05-06) has the digital pick up for the vss (like the s2000)while the 02-04 has the the normal style one (like most other hondas)

So i thought since i have the z1 pick up i might as well use an 06 cluster i had laying around instead of buying a $200 speadhealer thingy.

Well my cluster still doesn't work. Im using the z1 engine, z1 harness, an 05-06 k-pro and adapter harness and a z1 cluster....

So i began to research and i found out that it is possible to change the cluster on a 02-04 rsx-s to a 05-06 cluster and still have the speed-o-meter working. which means that the signal coming out of the ecu must be the same whether it is k20a2 tranny or a k20z1 tranny (with its respectable ecu)

so if you have a z1 swap with a 05-06 k-pro, can you get your speedo to work?

i dont know if this subject has been touched already...

yellowbox requires a traditional hall style sensor like the vss in the 02-04 k20. I don't think that it will work with the 05-06 magnetic pickup. However kpro can adjust the signal for the magnetic pickup.

im having the same problem on my speedo. i have a z3 swap on an ek with the em1 cluster and i have bought 2 speed converters from hybrid and none of them have worked. wondering what else to do to the damn thing to make it work!?

i was told that if you have a z1 tranny the way to get your speedo to work is to get your hands on a 02-04 stock ecu to run with your 05-06 k-pro , i have an a2 motor with a type r ecu , but i still would like to know for myself

my boy had a k20...with a z1 tranny.. and s2000 cluster in his tegi
and he was running the Dakota digital box...everything was working except engine temp... but he said he knew how to make it work also... but he ended up selling his swap... And now i am about to install it in my car!

Yes, well at least RPM gauge from what I know. And the temp gauge you need the moidifry converter to get it to work.

I thougt that with the z1 tranny since it sends out a digital signal as the s2k cluster, it would just need the speedo converter. Guess I was wrong.

ONLY if you have a z1 swap WITH a 05-06 k-pro.

pretty much what happens is that hondata moves the VSS out on the ACTUAL ecu to some random pin on the B socket.

in order for you to run the swap you need to plug in the A and B plugs into the adapter harness socket and plug E straight into the k-pro socket. Thats where to speedo problem arises, the pin comes out from the k-pro to the harness never gets to be plugged in anywhere. I dont have pics but in the mean time ill post a little diagram i made.

so if you run a wire from that vss out cable straight to ANY speed-o-meter then it will work (expect s2000 cluster, in that case you just splice into the VSS IN because the 05-06 k-pro converts the vss out back to normal reading)

i still cannot manage to make my speedo work. its the only thing not working. i have wired up that speed converter over and over trying different methods and nothing so far. even hooking it up to straight battery 12V and nothing. Dprada pm sent maybe you can help me out
