Ive been looking for this everywhere, i need the second gear for my k series tranny, 02-06 rsx 6spd, 06+ si.

if anyone know where to get this part, any info will help me out thanx

i searched for 23431-PNS-000, this part number was listed here in k20a.org as an unlisted part number, it came out to be a base model rsx second gear.

Re: Sencond gear

there is no way possible to just wear the triangle teeth on the gear alone. look at the selector, where those triangles slide in, ya those are mashed down. now when you put a new gear with old synchro your going to murder that new gear from mashing the unaligned old selector. also when you look at the triangles on the synchro they are fine, but as the triangle gets fatter towards the round part you can see it not stay so fat. change the hole second gear set.

Agreed. You are absolutely wasting time to JUST change the gear. The gear slide pin, syncro all work together and fail together. Replace the whole gear set, you are going to spend almost $400 after replacing the gear set, axle seal, and the 3 needle bearings in it.

Thats why people send their trannies to me, $450 for a rebuild including parts and shipping has been a deal many have taken advantage of :)

Re: Sencond gear

Thanks again but I'm not a noob on this so im 100% sure I just need the second gear, reason being that I'm the one who took the tranny apart, all the gears apart, and also because I have a new synchros allready from another tranny rebuild I did in the past.

I just ordered the 23431-PNS-000 part number and it's the 6spd 2nd gear, I'll post pictures later today in the unlisted transmission parts thread.

My thoughts exactly but he seem's to have his mind set that just the gear is bad. I guess where a few of us are coming from is that the parts do fail together and work together, and should be replaced all together.

Re: Sencond gear

in my case, the teeth on the gear wore much more than the teeth on the slider.

Brass teeth on synchro

Teeth on 2nd gear

Teeth on slider, 2nd gear side is up.

So really, the 2nd gear was the only piece I needed to replace badly. Ideally I'd replace them as a set, but my 2nd gear shifts fine at 9000rpm. I just figure that if I can replace the gear while I have it cracked open, it'll last a bit longer before the whole thing fails. Worth it for $60 IMO.

cool cool. I still wonder why it came up as a base RSX 2nd gear.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that only the gear was badly damaged. Normally, you'd think they'd fail together. I guess the slider is somewhat harder than the teeth on the gear?

Well, my 2nd gear looked like that from when I first got the trans with about 30k miles on it. I bought it on ebay, cracked it open to put the final drive in, and saw that. It hasn't really gotten any worse in the 70k miles or so that I've put on the trans since I first put it in the car. Either way, for $6x bucks, I figure it's worth putting in a new 2nd to ensure things stay smooth for some time to come.
