Hey guys whats up I have done searching and found a few threads similar to my question but nothing that answered it.
So here is my question, can you swap a k20a3 dirrectly into a RSX type s.
I bought a RSX type s the other day that jumped 6 teeth and junked the motor, I priced the k20a2 and I don't think the car is nice enough to spend the money on the motor. So that is why I am wanting to buy a cheap k20a3 and put it in. I know the redline, hp, tq is different. I want to keep the 6 speed trans and stock type s ecu, that way I do not have to get it reflashed. I am wanting to know as well will it run rich if I keep the type s ecu.
I will be using the type s intake and exhaust manifold.
Any good info is welcome.
Thanks :D

The Rsx is an 2002 the k20a3 motor is a 2005

k20a3 doesn't have the same injector size(smaller than a2 - 270 vs. 310) lower CR (a3 has 9.6:1)

k20a3 does not have the same vtec. It's a 2lobe intake and single lobe exhaust which is an economic vtec and the a2 has the "true" 3lobe vtec.

Rev limits are not the same .. 6900 for k20a3 vs. 8100 for k20a2. The stock k20a3 @ 8100 will drop in the oil pan.

April fools?

The ECU does NOT control the manual transmission.

The only "problem" would be the reverse lock. But it's not something huge or hard to fix.

I know the rev limits are different I wouldn't take a k20a3 to 8k rpms I just want it to run good and drive, I don't need a race car

Also, the k20a3 uses a variable runners intake.

If you really want to do this and give it a shot, swap the intakes and injectors.

Try it this way, but you will have a 12 valves engine.

And do NOT make it rev to the sky.

Still a bad idea, but you do what you want!

a k24A4/8 could be a idea, would give you room to grow in future is you wanted and can be had in $500-$600 range, still wold have ecu issue but lot better swap imo. what is your budget?

The budget isn't really the issue the car is just not nice enough to put a $2000 motor in, I have access to a complete 2005 rsx base that is wrecked thats why I am wanting to use this engine. I don't want to use the ecu because it is drive by wire

05 rsx base is not DBW, i believe hybrid now makes a chip to allow you to use a 05-06 ecu also. best bet is to prob use the 05 ecu.

i know a few ppl that have used ep3/base rsx ecu that were kpro'd witch did not have reverse lockout and they said you get used to it. you kinda have to go over aways to get into reverse so best advise i could give is to be attentive when going from 5th to 6th gear.
