Nooob Chat 101...Got questions, get in here

Got a quick question, ask away. I'm not going to tell you how to do a kswap. This way if its been asked 4million times, you won't get scarred for it. I'm trying to make that the point of this chat.

Now if I get one person that says search. I will give you a temporary ban. The whole point of this is to point the noobs in the right direction. But please read the DIY faq first, which is stickied at the top of the thread.

That is all, chat away!

Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

you should sticky this Drhonda:up:
I think my plan is that once it gets to a certain page length..say 50 pages. I'll close it and start a new one. I think once it gets used it will stay near the top anyway so it won't need to be stickied. We'll see how it goes.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

no questions, i'm dissappointed. People have to pay for this advice!
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Aside from a dry sump setup, what oil pans do I have to chose from for better ground clearance?

motor: k20a2
trans: k20a2

I've read that some k24 pans can yield almost 1 1/2" of extra ground clearance! is this true? :D
actual extra clearance I do not know. But a steel pan will yield better clearance. You can use a k20a3 pan as well as the k24 steel pan.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Do you know of an exact year make and model of car that came with the steel pan? or are all the k24 oil pans steel?

Thanks doc!
I believe they are all steel. I'll look it up.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

yes....only k20 3 lobe vtec motors come with aluminum pans
Yes Thanks Rich.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Only for you guys. Appreciate it man, keeps me doing what i do.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

I have an entry level question... Why is there no such thing as a K series swap kit? I have been really wanting to do this for a long time but I just can't shell out the $10-12 Gs required. A2 swaps go for reasonable prices now, however some of the parts necessary to make it all work aren't so reasonable. You would thing that there would be a market for this... I would buy anyway and I would think that many of the people just starting out would also. In this slow economic time, we need some deals!
the problem is that everyone wants something different.

Back in teh day Hybrid racing did a group buy on a swap kit. I'm not sure how well it went and what all came with it. But you could probably contact them for a "kit"
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

hm. I didn't know they offered this. I'll try this thanks.
I don't know if they still do. But our sponsors usually have pretty good deals on all the parts you will need. Thats what they are here for; supporting us

But contact them and see what they can do for you.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Cool I emailed HR. Maybe I just need to get bothering people about deals... To be honest I haven't really done this at all i've just been spooked after manually adding up the advertised prices. Thanks again.
Its not a cheap swap. But if you keep on the look out you can find deals on used parts.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

So I would like your opinion on different K24A2 options I am pondering: I Have an ep3 with the K20a3 and I would like to swap in the some kind of K24. I found a 06 K24A2 with 108000 miles near my area for $2000 Nikos has one with like 2k miles on it for 3000 plus shipping. So should I be hesitant about higher miles and just keep saving for a lower mileage or somewhere inbetween?
I would keep an eye out. There is definitely something better you can find for the same price with decent miles. I would contact Cody Civic5133 I think is his sn. He always has swaps and is a trustworthy source.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

<-- noob - I know that there is an engine code somewhere on my block but where is it? I'm having a hard time locating it. Any help would be great!

Thanks!
Its stamped right above the starter right before the trans and motor meet.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Your going to need kpro.

You should be able to use any starter and alternator from any k series.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

So what your telling me that there is no possible way i can start the car w/o kpro? I just need the motor running and i plan to tune it later
Its not worth it. Kpro is the safest way. Not to mention the easiest. Yes it is expensive, but well worth it.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

I called the guy thats selling the swap said i can get the ecu chiped and i dont need kpro is this true?
No.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

05-06 k20z1 pros and cons, this will be my first ksereis swap and im looking in to this motor and trans becouse theres a swap for sale cheap minus axles . i know there a converterfor the vss that hybrid racing sells is this only common with this tras and vss? sorry for this being the first post but hey im a noob .thanks
Yea there is nothing wrong with it. Good setup. The converter will be necessary if you want to keep your speedo.

Also remember that you will need an 02-04 harness in order to use kpro. Or you can use the jumper harness sold by hondata.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

sounds like i need to jump on this swap and get the b series out and the k series in lol what about AEM ems would i have to do the same with the harness???? thanks for the info also.
Not sure about aem ems, i odn't have any experience with it. Might want to contact them or someone here will chime in.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here

Just get an 02-04 rsx type s ecu and send it to hondata and have it kpro'd. Then you can upload a k24 map.
Re: Nooob Chat I...Got questions, get in here
