My K20Z2 Engine Building-First Civic FD Auto Type R

Hi guys

Still remember me talking about the which pistons to go? I finally settle down with the RRC pistons with 11.7 compression ratio.

Now I am buidling my engine head and changing the pistons.

For your information, the K20Z2 is the Asia Civic FD2 non Type R engine which is similar to K20A3 engine which has no exhaust VTEC. I am having the Automatic Transmission car and I am building the first AT high cam VTEC conversion.

Now I am changing the head to RBC head with intake and exhaust VTEC and high cam

I will keep on updating the project car. I am aiming for 200whp

Stay tune

Day 2 Progress (sorry for some poor resolution picture as I am using camera phone to capture, left my camera at office)

Took out the valve cover, here's the K20Z2 cams/valvetrain

Only 1 lobe at the exhaust cam

The economical VTEC with 2 lobe on the intake cam

The cam sensor

Top view of K20Z2 valvetrain

Camshaft took out and here's the rocker arm view

The exhaust rocker arm, i guess it's good for VTEC killer usage

The intake rocker arm

Head took off and now taking out valve springs and valve

Here's the valvetrain of K20Z2

Valve springs and valves took off from the head

Next, port and polish the head (intake and exhaust) for better flow rate

Day 4 Progress

The head is soaked into some cleaning chemical to remove the exhaust oxide

It is quite efficient for the chemical to remove it

The intake head after porting, not finalize yet, but the result looks good

Close up

Now they are porting the exhaust part and also touching up the intake port

Stay tune for more updates

I will still be running on Automatic Transmission

I believe that the gearbox I am having can take up to 300whp without issue. I alraedy installed Hayden ATF cooler so it shouldn't be a problem

This will be a first FD Auto Type R in the world I guess

if Jeremy at inline pro made 196whp with just A2 cams alone in an A3 this will be very interesting with aftermarket pistons and different mods. in for results, good luck man!

Im confused though, why in the first pic of your cars engine bay does it say I-VTEC on the manifold cover?

This is an I-VTEC engine. I changed to RRC Intake Manifold and that is the RRC Intake Manifold Cover
