Ok guy's, I was lashing the valves on the Z3 head today and happened to notice that the upper cam chain guide looked different to the one on the bench from the A2 head. The one on the engine is for the K20Z3(06'-07'Si) and it bolts onto the A2 and A3 head as well.
So next time the VC comes off add this for a added piece of mind for your high RPM ventures. Part# 14540-RWC-A02 (updated part# for 07' Z3 head).
1/20/22 UPDATED * The part number was changed or substituted for PN# (14540-RAA-A02) as listed in the according oem parts dealers. *
The A2/A3 upper chain guide is in my hand, notice the shorter length of the plastic guide!
The 07 CRV has a different part number for the upper cam chain guide however the 07 accord has the same part number. Just thought I would look for the hell of it not sure if it makes a difference or not.
mine comes monday woot:up:
changing this out, along with a new lower chain guide, that CNC chain guard, toda tensioner, and new chain. Car should be good to go
thanks for the clear as daylight demonstration! we needed this shown eventually. im trying to get my hands on that same chain guard, my boy has in a box of a bunch of head parts from an 06 si. so they definitely come on 06+
I failed to take notice of this thread over the past two years and I have not heard this thread as a recent topic. I found this out today and am getting ready to order the 2007 K20z3 upper timing chain guide. Obviously this design change is an improvement and after cross checking the upper timing guide bolts (2 of 2) that touch the upper guide are the same as the K20a/K20a2/K20z1 etc. After searching the forum I did not see follow up threads on this topic, I am assuming installing the 2007 Civic Si K20z3 upper timing chain guide on a K20a2 engine is an improvement on the timing chain assembly.
Since the part number has been changed to PN# (14540-RAA-A02) for the 2007 K20z3 engine's upper timing chain guide, which was PN# (14540-RWC-A02).
I am going to order the Z3 upper timing chain guide and install since I am installing a 100% new timing chain assembly.
Curious if it would also help on a JDM K24a motor? Are they short also? Would it bolt up and provide extra security? Already have Type S RSX oil pump to help with higher revs but this seems like another easy thing to add to help.
Seeing that this upper chain guide came in the 2007 K20z3 & boosted RDX I am willing to bet it is the improvement Honda felt the timing assembly could use. I can only see it as an improvement.
My JDM K24a is going to be kept stock NA. Only internal changes are RBC cam gear and Type S pump. Car is a track car so may push the rpm’s a bit more and it seems like a low cost layer of added security.
Okay, appreciate it. Got into a part number fog! lol
