So this past week Oxer has been a little lazy. He finished off the tunnel, fully welded it up and put it in etch primer. I wont go into great detail, ill let the pics do the talking.

The tab at the back of the opening will be trimmed down once the g-box is back in. Next is to seal it with seam sealer, then oxer will paint it with enamel. Once thats done he will start on the bay, I might do a mid week update depending on how much gets done. I still need to get some pics up of the new wheels for the front, and progress has been made with the engine. The power steering pump has been relocated so the opening in the bonnet will be smaller and only the rocker cover will poke through.

Another reason not much progress has been made is due to my wife having our first child. Family is more important then cars ;)

Oxer finally started on the front tubs.

As you can see the passenger side had a bit of damage from a previous owner...

Cut out.
The rad support will be removed eventually, but before Oxer does that, he had to make the right hand side tub up with the clearance for the turbo's compressor housing.

And thats as far as he got with it. He will get to the same point on the other side during the week, then with any luck next sat he can remove the rad support and make the skirts up. The radiator is here (MK1 VW GOLF), just waiting on the cooler and then we can start doing the removable tube rad support.

And for good measure, Oxer went to take photos of a friends car, so he snapped this of toli's RX7 with wheels thanks to Kriss.

Havent made much progress lately...

Now to make the inner skitrs. The factory ones oxer cut out as you will see in the following pic arent straight, its a bit of a pain in the ass to fold and bend sheet to make them suit the factory piece with his limited tools.

To make it easier Oxer made up a tube section which he will also use to reinforce the mount for the removable radiator support.

Lots of grinding to make it silky smooth

Then to start making the rad support mount...

And since toli's rear bar add-on came in, he wanted to mock it all up. Close to how it will sit, only instead of oxers 17" M7's, he'll run his 16" M7's. Pics for the stance kids lol.

Oxer was trying yo convince Toli to let him give the car an intense flame job, but he is extremely far from convinced.

So oxer decided to finish the front drivers side.

It was raining pretty heavy and he was planing on using the clothes line pole to bend a curve into the sheet. He found the next best thing..

He also did a little bit of stitch welding, wont make much difference, but meh.

Then he broke the top off a bottle of beer.... Since its against the law to waste alcohol, he did what any man would do, use paint filters and filter the beer into another empty bottle.

Time to make the mounting points for the rad support which he is yet to make.

Over the years brake fluid had taken its toll on the drivers rail. Surface rust covered it all the way under the car and it had even caused rust under some of the painted surfaces. Toli got under and brought it all back to clean, bare metal.

Oxer finished shaving the holes on that side, Cleaned it up and put it in etch primer.

And thats as far as we got, by next weekend we hope to be at the same point on the other side.

So Oxer finished the metal work about 6 weeks ago..... His been busy with many things and at the end of the year will no longer have space at his house to do work like this, so we are VERY VERY Greatful...

Anyway....

Cooler, radiator and oil cooler are all mounted to the rad support, and can be removed with it.

The bonnet(hood) doesn't sit 100% because the rubbers aren't in it.
The car is now back at home where it will undergo further modifications.

Very cool build.

I noticed in another thread you said you had a "cut n shut oem intake manifold." What exactly is that? Did you just cut it open do some porting and then weld it back closed or what?

Wat we mean by cut b shut...
We undid the bottom plate and basically cut the vollum.chsmber from.the runners,.flipped it around so the throttle body was facing forward and changed the angle to clear the alternator and power steering pump...

gear box time

update guys,

my bro toli decided to make Labour Day long weekend holiday worth while...

he loaded up the s2k broken gearbox & the PPG gear set into the bak of his daily fg falcon UTE and headed for SA...

he was fortunate enuf to stay with friends which made the trip cheaper...lol

on Sunday, Sam Charlick from Neat Gearboxes contacted Toli to meet at his shop and drop off the goods...

Sam is a awesome guy, he spent over an hour with Toli showing him his parts that we pre-paid for and the new shop inside out...

after smashing first gear here is wat we have discovered so far...

What you’re looking at is the auxiliary gear (PPG call this the drop gear).
It munched the oil pump drive gear.

some more from SAM...

Some more pics of the main gear set.
2nd gear on the input shaft is no longer present, haha.

The shards went through the box, through the pump and spat into the auxiliary gears, killing them too.
