Hi, im currently in the process of planning a k24 into a mk2 ford escort, im looking to do a k24/k20 Frankenstein build on the engine but im unsure on what parts from which engine to use, I will be buying a compete k24a3 motor and a k20a2 ep3 head (complete), what id like to know is what other parts may I need/ what is the full process on mating these parts together, eg will i need special cam chain lengths or anything like that, iv built engines before just never this, any and all help would be much appreciated.

All the best George

Here is a lot of info on K24/K20. It's a US site so no info on the K24a3 but should still help.

perfect thanks a lot im pretty sure the k24a2 and k24a3 are pretty similar so that helps alot
I used the RSX (K20) oil pump/pan etc., on my '05 JDM K24a3 so I can tell you that you need to modify the oil pump cradle mount casting and block off the K24 oil port in the cradle, if you get lucky like me your port will be threaded. Make sure to order the correct pump chain. These mods are covered in various threads on here if you search.

No comments on top end requirements.

Right ok, that's the type s oil pump isn't it? If so it's an upgrade iv already planned for, but thanks non the less ?
Yes, the RSX type S pump. I have one on my K24a2 block.
I remember having the same questions. The search terms I recommend are "parts list", "head difference" "k24 blocks list", etc.

Of course it can be more convenient to just make a thread and ask, and that's ok, however I think for more general questions like these it will actually save you time, and you will learn more by temporarily focusing your efforts on your search terms. This has been my experience.

This site, as well as clubrsx.com and clubep3.com, are really excellent and have vast, vast amounts of information, including repeated, extremely detailed coverage of k20/k24 compatibility, differences, etc. So much so that you may automatically learn why you need certain parts (not only that you need them), thereby increasing the accuracy of your predictions and reducing or eliminating your dependence on others when confronted with problems and questions.

I truly have faith in your ability to find it. Good luck George!

Many, many parts are optional... In other words your question is difficult because it is inspecific. Remember, the k24 engine block is taller than the k20, therefore of course you will be needing a timing chain to match... The cam gears are the same diameter k24/k20 and the head's mating surface locations are the same, therefore you may use a k24 timing chain. I'm unwilling to give you more information for now.

Yeah I have looked at some of these existing posts but the ones iv come across haven't been asking the same question as me, I wrote this post as more of a way to make sure I haven't missed anything, such as a custom timing chain tensioner or custom length timing chain or somthing else that I didn't already know about
The Hybrid Racing link I sent previously should tell you just about everything you need to know. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
