Does it bolt right up? Or are there changes I have to do. I just got a 2002 premium, and over the summer I'll be saving up for the swap. I'm just curious if I can get away without getting the 6 speed tranny as well.

true, but, a k24a2 needs to be mated to a 6spd tranny. the base tranny gear spacing is way to long

5 spd:

6spd:

I have a K24A2 with an RSX 5spd. I agree that gearing is longer on the 5spd. But it hardly "needs to be" mated to a 6spd. Its going to come down to what you're using it for and personal preference.

as everyone already said 5-speed transmission bolts up fine.

I'm running my EP3 trans with a K24a2. You feel like you don't need the 6-speed when you drive it for the first week.

Then you're like "shit, I need a 6-speed..."

smells like 6spd envy to me............... if u want to enjoy a k24a2, full swing, 6spd is a must. if u can't afford a 6spd tranny and just need the car to run, by all means run the 5spd. the 3rd vid i posted clears up everything. any k series motor mated to a 6spd tranny is noticeably quicker/enjoyable than the base tranny

Long answer short, get a PRB (Type-S) ECU or a PNF/PND (Base RSX / EP3) ECU with KPro

Doesn't really matter cuz tuning is the important part, not what type of ECU.

Just some people prefer the PRB cuz it has the reverse lockout for the 6-speed.

I say go with a 6 speed if you decide to stay N/A or supercharge...

stick with the 5 speed if you decide to turbo the car...

You can use a PRB or PNF kpro'd ecu. They all do the same thing at the end of the day... just the PRB one has the reverse lock out...

LOL your a douche. K24a2 mated with an ep3 tranny actually drives pretty good especially from a dig or a low roll, wouldnt recommend one if your going to be road racing unless your in a really light car. Coming from a guy thats owned both setups, on a straight line from a low roll or dig its pretty much a driver race (ep3 vs 6-speed, and on the street. track & slicks = different story).

The base rsx tranny is not a good tranny at all unless your boosted, when you hit 3rd gear your car falls on its face, until you pick up in the rpm range again.

Those videos cant be your only reference when talking about this subject, you have many motors aside from the k20a3 that will yield different results. The torque a properly tuned k24a2 produces will pull you threw any part of the rpm range (over 5k) just as hard, so wether you shift and land at 6k or 7k with a shorter gear tranny its still going to pull.. The base motor only makes decent power on a very short part of the rpm range lol, so a short geared tranny will help out more than a longer geared tranny.

Yeah, you're right. I did want a 6spd. Bought one then decided to boost and kept my 5spd. Anyway, goodluck to everyone!
Like you said it comes down to preference and what you will be using it for..

 Right on Friend. Also, I will add that not all hope is lost if you have a base tranny. You can change out the final drive and have some very nice results. Some very successful folks with a base tranny and 5.1 FD in autox and track.

Yes but a 6th tsx gear is highly recommended! Iam driving around a 4.7 ep3 5-speed right now and it sucks! ep3 tranny isnt highway friendly!..

The problem with the base tranny is that the actual gear 1-2 are short, shorter than the gears from the ep3 1-2. Just somthing good to know when considering what tranny to stick to.

random question guys: i have a 6 speed 04 tsx and im noticing now that it doesnt seem to shift into second right away when it gets up into high rpms. :( any thoughts on what could be wrong?
2nd Synchros Going to hell at least. When you try to shift the selecter tries to engage second and lock the synchro however the teeth are worn so it grinds and/or does not engage second. Take it easy shifting into second unless your ready to replace the syncro's and hopefully not gear but likely not your gear based on your description. Worst case scenario(To be technical 2nd would include A whole new mainshaft/countershaft 2nd gear/syncros. Possibly hub.)

I have a question guys. I have a base 02 5 spd. I have a chance to buy a 04 TSX 6spd motor complete with tranny. I want the swap. Is this a Bolt-on affair as in remove and replace? or lots more to do? Pls. help

Thanks!
Will bolt on to the engine but the TSX tranny mount is different from your tranny mount however so UNLESS you are heavily determined to run a TSX trans and fab a custom mount then sorry bro

Thanks for the quick reply! You guys are awesome! love this Forum!

About the TSX motor, Should I source out a DC5 6 speed tranny then? What Steps should I take take before blowing out more Cash?
Your base 5spd transmission will bolt up to it and run fine. For preference/performance people usually go with a 6spd but it is not necessary to get the swap done.
