Hi guys,

love this forum, so interesting and awesome things to be learned here:)

I'm prepping for a cylinder head build on my Euro K20Z4 FN2.. Just need some advice as to what would be best or if anything, some recommendations from you guys please. Block will remain unchanged, comp is 11.0:1 from factory.

Current power mods:
- Injen CAI
- Hondata Flashpro
- Bosson Performance Race 4-2-1 header (no cat)
- Bosson Performance 2.5" single exit mandrel bent exhaust (63mm)
- P2R thermal intake manifold gasket
- P2R TB thermal gasket (x2)
- P2R TB metal spacer
- Skunk2 Carbon composite fuel rail
- RRC FD2 intake manifold
- Competition Clutch Ultra-Lightweight Flywheel

My FN2:






Power figures as is: 170.5kw / 226nm

My head build plans:
305-05-0225: Skunk2 K-Series Tuner Series Stage 2 camshaft
310-05-2540: Skunk2 K20 Valve Set, Hi-Comp, Stock Size, DOHC i-VTEC
308-05-0410: Skunk2 K20/K24 DOHC i-VTEC Titanium Retainers
312-05-0010: Skunk2 Spring Base Kit for K20 engines
311-05-5380: Skunk2 K20 Pro-Series Valve Spring Set
304-05-0275: Skunk2 K20 Pro-Series Camgear (EXHAUST)
340-05-0002: Skunk2 K-Series Pro Series Timing Chain Tensioner
14401-K20-000: TODA Heavy Duty Timing Chain, K20
13441-K20-B00: TODA Heavy Duty Balancer Chain, K20
12251-K20-103: TODA High Stopper Metal Head Gasket (0.3mm)

The above is what I am thinking of ordering. Will this setup work and provide decent gains in power and torque? Also waiting for Skunk2 to release their 72mm Drive-By-Wire TB which i will mate up to the 72mm ported RRC mani.

High comp valves from Skunk2 will raise comp ratio by 0.3 - 0.5 points. TODA 0.3mm gasket raises comp by 0.4 points. So effectively I'll be sitting on 11.8:1 give or take, is this enough for optimal stage2 cam usage?

Reliability issues? Valve/Piston clearance issues? Any views and advice guys, please hit me with it!

That car is badass. You will see good gains with those parts despite people trying to talk you into something else. Needs more head porting :D

I would go with a stock head gasket.

Hi,

I also own a FN2.

Most mods lested look good. Even tho i am not a Skunk2 Fan.

Would NOT touch the Head Gasket, Stick to OEM.
Up to 9000rpms, OEM chain Tentioner, or Hybrid Racing one.

Im my opinion, leave the Valves. If you are not porting the head and going oversize, pointless to spend money there looking at the gains you will get.


Now you, like me..... need a proper Exhaust manifold!! That what we need! lol

Hytech are waiting for a few of us to get together and send them a FN2 Manifold so they can make a Header... :rolleyes:

some suggestions...Wait for the Hybrid racing DBW throttlebody...it should be slightly cheaper and just a bit bigger.Might aswell get the Toda Chain Tensioner aswell,it will keep chain tension in check and make sure you don't skip a tooth and ruin your engine with the cams.Alot of ppl have said getting the higher compression valves are not worth the weight they add to your valvetrain.I wuld tend to agree as you won't see any noticable gains from that small of a jump in compression.

sent ur head to Tom @ port flow..... Dont run Valves from Skunk2 ... Ur stock ones are fine

Hi guys, thanx so much for replies and advice, much appreciated!!

For now, I will leave OEM gasket in place, TODA 0.3mm is so expensive for what you are actually getting power wise, not worth it and my mechanic says OEM gasket is best at 0.6mm stock.

All TODA chains I am also going to leave out (expensive!!). Will run OEM chains with skunk2 heavy duty timing chain tensioner which i already purchased yesterday from a friend brand new at good price. :up:

I am going to go for the high-comp valves from skunk2, they recommend I run them alongside the pro-series springs and retainers just for peace of mind. They are not heavier than stock valves surely? skunk told me they are same weight as stock valves. I don't mind spending the funds on them and they will raise comp which is what is optimal for stg2 cams. skunk say 11.5:1 is nice for stg2. Also waiting for their 72mm DBW throttle body to release for purchase.

Also have ordered OEM Acura RDX 410cc injectors from Xenocron as stock 310cc injector duty cycle is already maxing out on 86% at 8556rpm (Hondata Flashpro reading). They say these RDX injectors have awesome atomization and spray pattern, and OEM is always great, so went for them. 5-8hp gains just by swapping to them. Any views?

Did some reading and seems to me I will need uprated oil pump. OEM FD2 RRC oil pump is a good option, should I go with that? It is a straight swap for my FN2 stock oil pump. FN2 RSP oil pump has balancer shafts in it which causes loss in power and after 8500rpm, does not pump enough oil, so I'm thinking to buy OEM RRC FD2 pump.. any advice on this? It is very similar to RSX oil pump from DC5. No balancer shafts inside. :up: and also 1/3 of price compared to FN2 oil pump from Honda dealer.

FD2 pump is a great Mod!! But only if you dont want to rev over 8600rpms.... If so i recomend a modifyed pump...

Not going for TODA head-gasket due to advice here from you guys. TODA timing chains.. are they extremely necessary? I dont have funds for the chains now so gonna leave it out. Is that ok?

Actually, I just priced up all those parts from JHPUSA.com (with the exception of the tensionor, they are not currently listed. Seats were not listed either, but I think they come with the springs). So, the total price of the 5 parts that are available comes to $1,591.20 before shipping...
tensionor from HR is $284,
Toda Chain is $228.
How much is this TB supposed to be?

@signalpuke: Skunk are estimating $400.00-$450.00 roughly for their DBW 72mm TB.

Guys, would you guys suggest I mill the head a bit to raise comp then? If so, how much is necessary. Stock head-gasket will be used and is 0.6mm from factory.

No, milling the head will severly limit your cam choice, and may even result in Piston to Valve contact with your stock cams.

What is your budget, and the aim of your build? I take it you do not wish to replace the pistons?
