Ok 1st i'd like to get any feedback on the current bolt ons i have:

2001 honda civic sedan LX
JDM K20a DC5 Type R Motor

1. Custom SRI with K&N filter
should i invest in building a custom CAI?

2. DC RSX SS Race Header 2.5' collector (No cat)
opinions on this header?

3. Full 3 inch exhaust system with magnaflow straight through muffler

4. Mugen N1 ECU 8600 redline 5200 vtec engagement
should i upgrade to k-pro?

What's next in the upgrade process?

Is nitrous safe to run on the type R motor with such high compression?

Are ITBs safe for street use?

Any comments or feedback is appreciated. This car is still a daily driver.

First of all, that is a great car for sure. You have done a great job.

You will see more power going from the mugen to K pro if you get the k pro tuned.

Z10 from here did use the mugen ecu and then moved on the K pro...

Look at his dynos


The following example will show a k20a, with custom exhaust in a EG, with stock ecu, mugen ecu and K pro without anyhting else changed.

Keep in mind that it is in KW instead of HP.
TO GET WHP from KW, you have to multiply by 1.3410
Also do not pay too much attention to the numbers but look at the difference in power.

The car is a k20a EG with DTR fab header.

The lower line of course is the stock ecu.

Look at the midrange gain with the MUGEN ECU

The dyno is a Dynometer.
One average
Dyno Dymanics 27% driveline loss
Dyno Jet 15% drivelone loss
Dyno Max hub dyno - 9% driveline loss


new dyno in with hondata+3 inch exhaust + 104 octane fuel

the blue line is k pro+3" exhaust +ELF LMS fuel

TO GET WHP from KW, you have to multiply by 1.3410

That is a gain of all almost 20.5 whp... from mugen to kro...'

maybe mugen was untuned but still you get what i am saying

Yeah, I gotta tell you...I've said it before in another thread and I'll say it again...thats a bad ass four door. You've got such a great thing goin right there, I'm tellin you.

On this issue, I was definitely going to say Kpro. Chips are great in some instances, but tuning specifically to the needs of your setup is going to get you power. Go Kpro.

adding to what the others have mentioned...

- maybe bump up your fuel pressure to 60psi (if running an adjustable FPR)

- Purchase an Rcrew P.I.M.P.

- If you're really down, get some aftermarket cams

PS: what needed to be customized in order to fit that K into your sedan? I see you had to purchase a Hasport tranny mount....what else? just curious. Your sedan looks good btw!

Alot of things needed to be done to my car.
but everything related to the motor:
hasport mount kit
aftermarket civic eg radiator
fal slim fan
rsx shifter assembly
custom driveshafts

everything else was related to my AT to MT swap.

all the info is located on the hasport site in terms of instructions.
mind u the instructions are very general.

definitely upgrade to kpro...a toda header would do nicely for better midrange and highend...you can go w/ more aggressive cams but i think would just be a waste...but up to you

you don't need a custom CAI ... you can use the AEM CAI from a Civic Si and it will fit ... Injen CAI fits too I think

get kpro!

and get some IPS cams or Crower cams :tup:
