Can anyone tell me how i can recognize a type R cam. I wan to buy a set but i want to be sure i am not scammed and given Type S cams.... pls anyone ?
I believe there is no way to tell visually because they bare no distinguishable outward markings on them.

Only ways i know of identifying them are thru measuring the duration (they share the same gross lift), or the part#'s listed on the boxes they come in:

ITR Cams:
14110-PRC-000 Intake cam JDH 22.11.20

14120-PRC-000 Exhaust Cam JDH 22.11.25

I was trying to buy these cams off of someone but if there is no way of telling what i am getting, then i am going to have to buy them brand new. geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez....
I believe (but am not certain) that type-R cams have a double ring on the short side of the cam. Type-S cams have a single ring.

Good luck

damn should have taken some pics of them when i installed them in a tsx motor this weekend, i did inspect the two and the vtec lobes are definitely bigger, also something to note is that is you look where the tsx cams had the cam gear bolt there is a lil crevice that says "12.5" in it. the jdm cams didnt have that so im not sure if its a usdm thing, i wish i could remember the letters and #s that were printed on the intake cam gear, but the markings on the cams themselves were the same.

If you buy a brand new sest of cams, try ordering 2005 stock type S cams. I am on a 2 month wait list from my dealer.

Anyone else have an "in" to get these quicker from a dealer?

In conjunction to those, I will be using S2000 springs.

Anyone else have any other OEM-style recommendations?

I used to want to go with Toda A cams, then IPS came out with theirs. Unfortunately, I can't fathom spending alot of money on this car seeing that it's my daily beater and I need it running 100% of the time I'll be driving.

I guess the best thing to do is to get them brand new. I have seen guys selling alledged Type R cams, but since there is no way to tell i might get scammed ( no offense to anyone selling cams). Shite cams will cost me aroudn $574 brand new, I am wondering if I cam buy the parts recommended by IPS for their cams and use them for this set up so I rev harder, anyone ???? $283 for the type R manifold.

ok heres the deal. this is the reason im on here too..we came up with 4 different sets of cam numbers for the type r's ON real K20A motors...u know the stamped numbers? but i guess, the type s have the same type numbers so its just hard to tell..u said ur S cams had 2 rings? my R cams have 1 ring..this is seriously a pain in the ass..i think the R has ones or 2 rings also its the same way its been since the mid 90's...i dont know what the hell i have some BRAND NEW cams from honda in the box...one problem, they came from someone on club rsx and were already opened. i mean they look clean like new but who knows you know? they could be really cleaned up type s cams because he said today how he was running his R cams and he has a CEL light, i starting thinking...why would he spend $600 on type r cams from honda, resale them for $410 to me, and have a set in his car already? doesnt make sense...i dont know wtf but this is a pain..

heres my plan, im gonna head to the local shop because they are real deal jdm do'ers and pull these out all the time so i'll ask the mechanic if he has ever noticed anything different about the cams..THEN im going to go to acura and see if they have any STOCK S cams in stock so i can look at them....

even better can someone take pics of there true TYPE S cams?
And someone take pics of their true TYPE R cams.

This would eleviate any issues...

I know the b series had the ring differences.. dont know if that leaked over to the k series. i have r cams in my r so never needed to look..

Ok boys, today i looked at some TRUE type S cams out of an 02-04 S. the exhaust cam said R3 and had NO RING! I believe i have true type R cams even though the guy COULD be messing with me. I mean the box is totally type r and the cams are BRAND spankin new. So i doubt he would go thru all the trouble to shove some brand new type s cams in there...then he'd loose money anyway and yes my cams are pretty light.

R5 ex
R6 in

maybe viseversa but thats what i have and it has ONE SINGLE ring. i compared side by side! the shop mechanic told me i should call toda because they dicect type r cams allt he time to test them so if you can get ahold of someone that actually work with the cams, then they probably know EVERY difference...so im pretty sure I have some R cams..so ONE ring and R5, R6..also, i was told that even putting them in now, helps ur Hp pretty good without a flash from dyno's they had done...

Dude, here's a real easy way. It should have a nice PRC stamp on there somewhere if it's type R or PRB if it's type S.

wrong...there is no PRC stamp. there is no PRB stamp on the stock ones wither...and i believe on clubrsx.com there was a car shop that found 4 different types of numbers. so i guess the numbers dont really matter. Today i'll be at the shop again so maybe i'll hold them both in each hand and see whats up...
