Introducing Carbon Fiber Lined Synchros

We are leading the way in introducing yet another option for our Carbon Synchro line. The new “K Series” synchros are unlike anything that is offered on the market today. Traditional Full Carbon Lined Synchros have known characteristics of flaking and separating from the brass body due to overheating during the baking and bonding process, or from improper handling. Even though the Full Carbon Lining concept was good we recognized the need for improvement, so the Gearspeed team began putting our collective knowledge and experience together to aide in the design and development of a superior Carbon Fiber Lined Synchro that would meet or exceed our original Carbon/Moly coated synchro design. The bonding process has been redesigned with a carbon fiber interweaving method as well as an updated braking surface to allow more fluid lubrication to combat issues of overheating.

Interested in a set for NSN4 05-06 K20Z1. I just bought a tranny for a full time race car (330 whp expected from a K20/K24). I haven't opened the case or anything but is it usually the case that for such a build that a bearing and seal kit is recommended?

HI,Yes I have synchros in stock for that transmission. We always recommend a bearing and seal kit if the transmission has not been gone through. I would check the 2nd gear sleeve and gear real close as well. Since it is already open it is smart to go through it all so you dont have to open it again for a long time.

Everyone seems to love them! My personal set in my road race car has over 8 30 min races on them. We have daily drivers with over 5k miles on them as well.

They are $275 for the set for 6 speed and includes the steel rings.

How would these fair on every day drivers? Like you say we have people with over 5k miles on them. I'm thinking more like 50k miles. Or honestly should i just stick with OEM Type-R synchros? I've been saving for a full tranny rebuild and i don't want to have to take the trans back apart if these things aren't going to last past 20k miles or so.

We have confidence the synchros will last. As with any aftermarket part, the life expectancy depends on the end user. If you maintain the fluid properly and do not abuse the transmission it will last quite a long time. Everyone who has tried these loves them and I have not heard any negative comments on them at all.

Just bought a set from Cody having them installed today by Karen Radley Acura along with my quaife, will keep you guys updated. I have heard bad things about these from people after 5000 miles but I had gearspeed carbon syncros on B series trans and loved them, so we shall see about these new carbon fiber ones for my NSN4 trans.

Confidence but no proof? You don't know of anyone that has a car with these synchros with high mileage? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Btw, if anybody does, speak up. I'm just wondering if i should just stick with OEM synchros or go with these. It all depends on which lasts longer for me. An LSD install isn't going to be cheap nor is the tranny rebuild so i want to make absolute sure.

So far about 10k miles in and syncros feels great, shifts smooth at 4k or 8k no grinds no pop out so far so good. only cons so far is notchy when cold.
