The wrap does a better job of insulating heat, in my experience. However, it is a hassle to apply and work around and does require replacement every few years. Tought to beat for the price, I will continue to use it.

I have used the ceramic coating, and I could not say which works better(even though physics should dictate the wrap working better with its thickness, etc.) If you do ceramic coating, make sure you get one that will hold up to a little abuse. I had mine done at polydyn, and looks kinda rough after a couple years, so much so I will be recoating it in a different coating that resembles a chrome or similair. Not all ceramic coatings are created equal. I just personally didn't want to wrap my pretty new manifold, at least you can kinda see the welds underneath the ceramic coating. I believe there are are some manufacturers of turbo manifolds that request you not heat wrap them or it will void the warranty.(not sure if this is still the case, but I thought it was with full race)

Why not get it coated AND wrap it? I would imagine this would offer superior heat control than either method alone.

When you wrap the header, make sure you soak the wrap first...this allows you to stretch the fabric during install. Otherwise, the fabric will expand and loosen on the header after install.

I've asked this and was always told it'll retain too much heat and possibly damage the item. Not sure if that's true, but it seems possible.

I also heard somewhere that this was the reason why FR was not honoring warranties on heat wrapped products, not sure if there policies have changed.

Looking at Pics on their website, they show plenty of their manifolds heat wrapped. Guess this is no longer the case..

my header is coated and not only does it look tits but it does an amazing job keeping the temps down. that may just also be attributed to the cooler temps since it's winter.

That's a baller header my dude, I just have a PLM RH, knock off SSR.....can't really go wrong for $400 shipped to my doorstep, but I'm going to be doing some go fast goodies soon, so I just wanna squeeze every bit out of my setup that I can....

Think wrapping a CAI would be beneficial or cause heat soak?

from my understanding, wrapping would keep heat in. if anything you'd want something that reflects heat like those gold foil wraps. i was actually contemplating doing the same for mine but now just waiting for hybrid racing's new 3.5" silicone intake, whenever it comes out. since it's winter my IAT's hover around 55-57* while driving so i'm not worried until it starts warming up again.

Yeah, my temps are around the same, I notice I go through about a quart of oil in between every oil change too. I'm using 5W-30 full synthetic nd change every 3K miles, I only have about a 2 mile drive to work so I haven't put much mileage on the car, still at 77K and have owned it for over 3 years now, probably put on ~20K miles. (Sorry OP for thread jack)

Back on topic....I think ur right, the wrap would insulate the heat which would in turn cause heat soak. I'm not a fan of how that gold foil stuff looks, I've seen a dude on CRSX use it and frankly I think it looks like trash, for 1-2hp it's just not worth it.

Any idea on the ETA of the HR 3.5 inch intake? I've been waiting for someone to mass produce a 3.5 inch intake for the RSX since it seems to make power with the right supporting mods. I originally thought K Mod would mass produce one since they have one on their K24 RSX, then I thought maybe I would take the Injen off during some down time and get a custom one made with the same dimensions as the Injen just larger diameter tubing, but now if Hybrid Racing is making one, I'm game to go that route, just hopefully it's out within the next 4-6 months or less... :notbad:

A lot of he say she say going on. My header is currently wrapped and still under hood temp is HOT. Like you open the hood and you have to look away hot. But iat readings are fine. While moving I see as low as 60* but while idling for a bit. I see it go up to 122* but then fan kicks on a it drops it a little.

Id like to try a coat the inside of the piping but I dont have a spare header during downtime. And also make heat shield to try and solve this heating issue.

The radiator fan has nothing to do with your IAT's. They will vary more depending on the outside temperature and filter placement than anything.
