I have spent about an hour searching this subject but don't have any confirmation. I know you can interchange chases, final drives with gear set, and most of the gears between the trans so before I attempt this I wanted to see if anyone has done this with success.

I have a busted ep3 4th .921 gear and wanted to know if the type S 5th .921 gear was the same? I can get a type s one for free from my buddy is why I ask. I know the parts numbers are listed different and I believe the type s gear has one more tooth on the main shaft so this leads me to think no but either way has anybody done this or know if you can replace the ep3 4th with the type s 5th?

if one is a .921 and the other is a .921, then they both have the same number of teeth. That's what a gear ratio is... the number of teeth on one gear divided by the number of teeth on the oppsite shaft. But yeah, the gears are interchangeable between transmissions. No prob.

No. It will not work..... Yes the ratios are the same between the type S 5th and the ep3 4th but the size of the gears themselves are different and how they mesh with each other on the mainshaft and countershaft. You cannot interchange gears in that manner

Not to mention EP3 3-5th are 2 cone synchros and RSXS are three cone synchros...

That is what I thought by doing the search. I knew they had the same ratios and I've seen guys drop in 3-6 into the ep3 so figured it could work just not they way I want. I've never really had to year threw transmission until now with the k's.

oOOoo... EP3 4th and type-S 5th. I must've skimmed right over that detail. Ya, that wont work. I was thinking you had an EP3 with a 6-speed and you were doing 5th for 5th. Yeah, you can't take a 5th and use it as a 4th.
