hey guys, i think i may have found a workin solution for the cheaper alternative for working reliable axles. I ended up finding out that the OEM axle combo on our the EF chassis WILL work, however, it requires one modification. At first i tried the setup and it would drive around... but the inner piece that mates to the transmission and the other side on the half shaft wouldnt seat 100% because they we-re about 1/2 of an inch too short.
Solution: i first took the inner joint apart. removed the rollers off of the tripod, and removed the C-clip that holds the tripod from sliding too far down on the splines. next, i slid the tripod piece flush up to the end of the shaft still making 100% contact with the splines, this relocation is just the length needed to keep the axle in place. once positioned, i put about 4 beefy welds on the shaft and tripod to hold it in place as the C-clip would have done. after that, re-install the rollers on the tripod, adequately grease the joint and re-boot it. after this slight modification i drove around for about 30 miles, and the axles stay seated and work fine.
