i didn't get a chance to read this thread in its entirety, but good find with the tensioner chucky. however, i think, considering the basic operation of the tensioner, your friend is experiencing a oiling problem not a tensioner problem. it's the oiling problem that is causing the tensioner to fail. the reason why i think this is the case is because the tensioner is not getting enough oil to hold the timing chain, which in-turn is requiring the tensioner to use the teeth on the ratchet to hold the chain. this is resulting in premature wear of the tensioner's mechanisms.
what can you do to prevent this?
