what can you do to prevent this?i didn't get a chance to read this thread in its entirety, but good find with the tensioner chucky. however, i think, considering the basic operation of the tensioner, your friend is experiencing a oiling problem not a tensioner problem. it's the oiling problem that is causing the tensioner to fail. the reason why i think this is the case is because the tensioner is not getting enough oil to hold the timing chain, which in-turn is requiring the tensioner to use the teeth on the ratchet to hold the chain. this is resulting in premature wear of the tensioner's mechanisms.
