I have a 2002 civic si it has the factory 5 speed in it and I have been told that it has a spacer where sixth gear would be my question is if I pull that spacer out can I make it a 6-speed?
Damn thats A good question. but would not the gears still be differant?SLEEPER CIVIC said:I have a 2002 civic si it has the factory 5 speed in it and I have been told that it has a spacer where sixth gear would be my question is if I pull that spacer out can I make it a 6-speed?

I quess what I am saying is A type s tranny has A close gear ratio, so it would still be the better choice, but I do like your idea.

I don't know if it can be done or not but, to answer remyrounds question i think the ep3 tranny would be better to go with if you are swapping a k24 because the gearing is much better for the torque. heard a lot of people complain about wheelspin with a type s or r tranny on their k24. one guy says he hits 6th gear before a quartermile. For a k20a or a2 or a3 the type s/r tranny would be better though with less torque. Would be nice to make that a 6 speed though if its possible.remyrounds said:Damn thats A good question. but would not the gears still be differant?

DAmn.. so, lets say I did an a2 head swap on my a3, then put the k 24 bottom end on later, would It not be better just to put an lsd clutch and flywheel on my a3 tranny then? And did'nt skunk 2 use the a2 tranny on there 9 whatever second k20/k24 rsx? And what about final drives?ninefivehatch said:i don't know if this helps, but in sport compact car there was an article about how to do the k swap. they said that 6 speeds can interchange gears between other 6's, and 5 speeds can swap gears with other 5's, but 6 speeds and 5 speeds gears cannot be swapped.
again, this is what was said in sport compact car, i have no actual experiance with the transmission.
I do beleive they are running the RSX S tranny in their car... I herd with the Tpye S swap you need the Type S/R tranny because the EP will fall out of VTEC...remyrounds said:DAmn.. so, lets say I did an a2 head swap on my a3, then put the k 24 bottom end on later, would It not be better just to put an lsd clutch and flywheel on my a3 tranny then? I think it all depends on which k24 you use... On the CRV/Element/Accord the 5spd would be good, but if its the k24a2 out of the TSX the 6spd isnt really "required" but "recommended"... Also I've herd even the normal k20a3 will Type S tranny makes a huge positive difference...goldywang said:I don't know if it can be done or not but, to answer remyrounds question i think the ep3 tranny would be better to go with if you are swapping a k24 because the gearing is much better for the torque. heard a lot of people complain about wheelspin with a type s or r tranny on their k24. one guy says he hits 6th gear before a quartermile.
