hey, im new to swaps, and im just not satisfies with what the k20a3 is stock. i have heard that its a money pit, and you cant see high hp numbers with it, so i want to take the next step, but im not sure what to do? a head swap? a full k20a2? or a k24? i want to see about 250 hp before i go forced induction. im going to have about $3500 to work with on the swap. what is going to be the best setup for my ep? any information woul be appreciated. thanks.

I would go with a k24a2, because of the size of the car man. If you don't go with that motor, then you can go with the k20a2 or k20a. The k24a2 has more tq and is able to have a nice topend like the k20s mentioned. With either of these motors you are very well capable of 250hp. Also with either of these motors the type s tranny would be good for.

It's kind of up to you. Need some more info as to what you really want. Also if you look at a k24, stay away from the k24a4 or k24a8. These motors are in the accord and crv with only 160hp. The one I mentioned is in the TSX with 201hp with 166tq. This k24a2 is more related to the k20s.

thanks for the info. ya, i wouldnt be getting an a4 or a8 if i went that route. im kinda thinking about going the k24a1 or k24a2. is there a big difference between them? and were you saying that the k24a2 comes stock with 200hp?

Oh, I did forget to mention that k24a1 as well. Stay away from it also. It is just like the k24a4 and a8. The only k24 to bother with is the k24a2. If it's not that one, no need unless you plan to do a k20/k24 hybrid.

Yes the k24a2 has 200hp stock.

For $3500 you might as well not even start. I highly doubt you can get 250hp with that money.

You're going to need AT LEAST twice as much when its all said and done.

kpro is like 1000 alone, tranny with lsd is going to run you over 1000 for sure (for one in good shape). $1500 left and you still need to buy supporting mods (I/H/E)...

If you wana make 250 for $3500 just boost your ep3 stock motor.

well thats an idea, but i dont understand why i cant just buy the k24a2 motor, and use my ep3 tranny. that would give me about 200 hp. and still give me about $1000 to play with.

Because n/a k24 with a 5 speed is no fun. Its very slow on the top end compared to the same setup with a 6 speed.

Plus you are just thinking of getting a motor for $2500, then having a G left. There are so many incidental things you are going to need / break.

-motor mounts
-kpro
-tuning
-boltons (i/h/e)

Bottom line if you want you COULD just get the k24a2, get kpro and throw it un untuned. But if you want to go as fast a possible for cheap, go turbo a3.

well i would go turbo a3 right away, but i want more potential in the long run, which is why i was thinking about going the k24a2 way. how would that be slow? that motor comes with 200hp. that would make for a somewhat quick ep.

K24a2 with a 5spd trans would be slow because of the gearing. The EP3 3rd gear is long.
Yes it is. I'm putting down over 200 with k24/k20 in my EP and its not that fast cuz I have a 5 speed. (my 6 speed is almost done, just waiting on gearing).

At highway speeds my friend's 08 TSX with J's i/rh/e and RBC pulls on my ep. The 5 speed gearing is just utter crap for N/A.

I ran 14.6 on street tires with a 2.0 60 trapping like 97-98 mph. 1st is too short and just wheelspin, 2nd is too long, and 3rd it just falls on its face...

ok. well what about the k24a2 complete swap with the 6 speed trans? or would i be better off buying a k20a2 with 6 speed? they both have about the same hp, and the k24a2 has a little more torque? what would be the better swap?

In my opinion, I wouldn't turbo a stock a3 simply because it's not a performance motor. Just go all out and do a motor swap. The experience of having real vtec is worth the money spent. Later down the road you can think of changing your set up to something like k20/24 frank swap. I would concentrate on your long term goals. $3500 is a good amount to start off with, but eventually you will wanna do more. So just work with what you got to start off your project and get you closer to your goals. Just my 2 cents.
