Default K24a1 vs K24a2

I'm in the process of getting a k24 motor and i have been doing a whole LOT of looking and READING up on them.

What is the difference to each motor and what are the advantages to them, a friend of mine is selling me a k24a1 for 1000 no tranny or harness.

Basicly im asking which is better the a1 or the a2 and why.

I have only heard good things about the a2 i havent really heard that much about the a1.

Can someone please let me know as i will be getting it in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks.

Both will accept a type-S head.

K24A1...
will accept the type-S oil pump with no modification.
no oil squirters.
lower compression.
Not 'real' VTEC.

K24A2...
oil squirters.
higher compression.
'Real' VTEC.

That is about it.

definitely get the a2. You can buy an A1 cheaper than that as well.

With the A2, it has real vtec as mentioned, but is limited to 25 degrees vtc. If you get a machined vtc intake gear to 45 degrees, and tune it with Kpro, it is a monster, with tons of midrange trq.

also upgrade the oil pump, get one from a k20a2, just needs to be cut to work. Lets you rev a lil higher, frees up a few hp because its easier for the engine to pump. If you need one, please pm me, i'll sell you one modded brand new, were a vending shop here on k20a.org, well known, with many vouches.

pm me if I can help you out with anything, even a k24a2 motor, as we have them in stock and are willing to ship.

I'd say its a noticable amount, not a tiny bit, especially in the midrange, and even more so with the modded cam gear.

It is significantly different just switching the 25 degree vtc gear to a 45 degree gear in a TSX motor. Night and day, especially tuned. Then if you maybe throw cams into the mixture....

second link posted was really being held up by the 2.5" exhaust and weak intake setup. Cold air and a 3" exhaust will wake that car up.

someone sent me a PM, I pm'd you back, guessing you saw this thread

I've been doing research as to what K engine I should go with for the past 2 months. After reading countless threads and posts. I have decided to go with an a2 as well for various reasons:

"True" Vtec
Great Torque
Cheaper than K20
Reliable
Oil squirters
List goes on...

Key things to get as Colin stated: moded k20a2 oil pump, 3inch IHE, Kpro, moded VTC.

And I vouch for the guys a seekspeed. They know their way around the k24a2 very well.

K24a2 it is then.

Man if i could go to a scrap yard and pull the thing out my self it would be way cheaper to get especially in the all you can carry dayslol i could go with my bro split the engine in half and we can both walk out with it for about 100 bucks.

But good luck with that

As for pricing i found 2 of them right now i found 1 for 1400 and another for 1500 im just waiting for them to bring it to their locations so i can go take a look and comp test it.

But ya other then the pricing thanks for all the info guys.

Plus the TSX is much more common and easy to find than a Type-S.
you want an 06-08 k24a2. anything newer than an 08 would not work out well.

Post Re: K24a1 vs K24a2

Ok now that i know about the a2 what is the difference between the 04-05 and the 06-08, what are the advantages of either motor?

I have found the 04-05 for 1200 ready to go, can i get the same power out of that one or should i get the 06-08 because i can get more power out of it.

If I can get the same power in both the same way then il just stick with the 04-05.

Maybe it will be easier if i just tell you how much power i want then i can get the answer im looking for.

Power goals im looking for 300hp+ N/A with a 70mm tb, dc5 type R / S lsd 6 speed tranny, 3" full exhaust, Kpro, Hybrid racing fuel system, Stock internals for now, skunk2 intake or port a rrc intake, etc.........you get the idea.

Can someone please help me out, i really need to know this as i dont want to make the person for the engine hold it if im not going to buy it.

well to get to 300hp you will be changing all of the parts(internals/cams) that are different so go with the cheapest option,it does'nt have to be a TSX engine, any K24 will do.

300hp or 300whp? cause the good thing about the k24a2 is it reliable to 250-270ish whp n/a with a pretty much stock bottom end (expet for the oil pump). Which was what I thought you were looking for. Anything past that will require a built bottom end so as bossman said you should just go with a k24a1 at that point.

In terms of factual proven differences between the 06-08 vs the 04-05 I'm not sure but if I'm not mistaken its something to do with the head...there is a thread about that here. Just research and you should find your answer.

the cams and throttlebody are definitely different. The later model(06'+ TSX) get the better cams and larger throttlebody.
