Smile K20a vs k20a2 vs k20z heads

Hi guys,

Ive been searching on the web for a while and cannot seem to find any information on the differences between the heads on these engines.

All I can find are compression ratios, bore, etc etc but nothing on head comparison.

Beside the differences on the valve train, cams etc. I want to know if the heads are the same or is the type R jdm K20a more superior? If so, then Valves should be different as well?

Thanks for you help guys.

All the same casting. Different valve train on the K20a and a2/z.

Yes the K20A, A2, Z1 all use the same exact head casting, there is absolutely no differences at all. The bare head's have the same part#.

The JDM 07+ type R heads flows more over the rest K20 or K24 heads.

It really depends what year you are talking about... generally before 2006 and includind the american Civic Si 2006+ heads they flow the same. The 2006+ TSX flows better. The japanese type r heads from the latest years flow better but still conservative for full blown applications

most of the JDM Type R heads are die cast, not sand cast. they have better consistency and finish as well as less core shift.

Flow benches vary but most show type S heads flowing about 290 cfm!

YES 06+ have the higher flow. I believe its the ports as well as the larger intake valves that allow it to out flow the Type S

YES 06+ have the higher flow

The 06-08 TSX head flows about the same or a bit less over the K20A/K20a2/K20Z1 head. The advantage of the 06-08 TSX head is that it comes equipped with 36mm intake valve instead of 35mm, and the ports are a bit smaller, therefore more potential to improve with porting and still maintain higher velocity over the K20A/A2/Z1 head.
