what exactly is the function of the gear compensation and how is it used? i accidently had mine set with the gear ratios of a 5spd because thats what i had, but forgot to change that when i put the 6spd in... so now i changed it and i notice all values are 0 for fuel and ignition comp, but for tps ignition retard its 0 17.2 0 -50 -100 -100... what exactly do these numbers mean, and do u guys think my tune is gonna be effected because i changed the gear ratios in this option?

your tune isn't affected if fuel/ign compensation are zeroed out
they allow you to do some fine tuning compared to the gear you tuned in, e.g. 1st/2nd gear might want a bit more fuel & ign advance, 5th & 6th less
TPS ign retard has to do with how aggressive the ign advance comes on at throttle tip-in. if you set all the values to -100 for minimum retard then drive around, you'll feel the difference when you shift. it may feel jerky so then you increase the retard values for the lower gears and see what you like.

ok so what im gathering is that a higher value will make the advance come slower, making the car less aggressive when u shift, sorta holding back power.. and if u set it lower, the power would be more instant.. correct?
now if this is tru, would this be able to be used to help wheel spin for say 2nd gear? if there was a slight delay before the advance then the tires would probably catch better... would have to find a balance tho to make sure it doenst hurt more than help

yeah it's something like that. I don't know if it holds back power, but it feels like it rolls on the ignition advance for smoother throttle vs. an instant jerk. hadn't thought about it helping with traction but you may be on to something! try the extremes -100 and +100 in 1st and 2nd and see how it feels

My AF by gear is right on just like rsxmachine noted, 1-2 need more, the higher gears need less. My 1st needs as much as 4% increase IIRC.

first off i have been building cars my entire life, i have been tuning efi systems for almost 8 years. I never stated to know everything, I learn more every day and will never stop learing but i dont claim to be able to do things i am not capable of doing. You on the other hand call yourself a tuner and dont know what gear comp is, so please do everybody a favo and dont call yourself a "tuner" if you dont know the basic's of ecu operation then. There is more to tuning then just fixing the a/f ratio.

So I hooked up my laptop after a while of no tuning. I played around with some of the settings, TPS ignition retard included. I set them all to -100 but was only doing part throttle because my new lean protection settings were causing me to cut at 3k @ moderate accel on the freeway. I couldn't play around with it since KManager keeps going offline, and I had to dc and reconnect the USB every 5 seconds just to see the MPG reading (Theta's KDisplay program)...but at part throttle and slight accel, it's barely noticeable. yeah, throttle tip-in is basically the response of the engine as you go from closed throttle to open throttle... and the rate of ignition retard/advance contributes to how it feels. if too retarded it can feel hesistant or even bog. if too aggressively advanced it can feel steep and jerky or even ping. just play around with it and see what you like. I dunno if the default values had much thought put into them but my current settings are -60, -75, -90, -100, -100, -100. this of course depends on having decent ign tables to begin with.

I don' know if my ignition tables are fine, they are based off the CAI kal (only tuned for knocks, tuned semi richer than usual at 12.9 +/- 0.1) all this for an Injen CAI-RBC-Buddy Club RH-2.5" Comptech exhaust setup.
